One Billion Rising Campaign
Rape victims being heard in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): On Valentine’s Day this past Thursday, February 14, the V-DAY movement brought to a close the “ONE BILLION RISING” campaign—a billion men and women saying no to violence against women and girls.

This campaign achieved its highest point in Bukavu, DRC, in Panzi (Mushununu) on the football field. More than 200 countries took interest in this “One Billion Rising” campaign. They abandoned their ordinary activities to speak up and say no to violent acts and rapes against the most precious resource, women.

Women and men of all nationalities rose against the violence committed against women and girls. They expressed this through dance and joyful cries.

The political & administrative authorities present at the ceremony used the event to support the actions of the V-DAY movement in the fight against all types of violence regarding women.

As for Christine Schuler Deschryver, director of La Cité de la joie and national V-DAY representative, she indicated that the objective sought through this campaign has been achieved.
