Preaching Courage In A World Which Perpetuates Fear

I write this piece to express my feelingsof disappointment when I look around me. I find so many women and men calling themselves 'activists', swearing to the 'cause' of gender equality but backing out, as soon as the 'cause'prompts themto altertheir comfortable lifestyle to incorporate itself.Everyone likes to be associated with fancy terms like 'curator' or 'harbinger of change', but it isdistressing to challenge the status quo to become acuratoror achange maker. WhenI raise questions indicating the 'change' that I want to bring, it makes everyone around me uncomfortable;uncomfortableto the extent that I have been told to get 'womenempowerment'tattooedon my forehead. I have been told that I am 'no fun'becauseI reason and protest against sexist jokes and memes.I have been repeatedly told to acceptpatriarchy as the 'rule of the jungle' and see myself as beingamongthe 'privileged'ones to have an accessto college education and other opportunities that are required for survival here. I ask, why is it that this education is a 'privilege'for me, while it is just an ordinary degree for my brother?Why is it that when i exercise the 'rights' given to me by my constitution as a woman, the society views it as moral transgression? Despite my dedication towards the cause, the society (not just random people, but also my friends and family) makes me question the viability of this change that I am so passionate about, very often.

....

Change is not the utopia that you've always fancied;

It is the challenge to an indomitable status quo

It is not the binary between 'us' and 'them', it is the polarization of your own spirit

It is the inconvenience that will crack your comfortable houses and set your basics on fire

It is the unnerving of your enraged being that will force you to seek refuge in the generalization that you've stood against

It is the slashing of your integrity when you'll stand against the middle class ideas that engulf you

It is the heartbreak of estrangement that will pressurize you to succumb to hypocrisy

Change is the loathing that will challenge to curb the very freedom it guarantees

Change is the stripping off of all your luxuries,

Change is the harbinger of infinite possibilities that will tempt you towards your Fall

Change is the violent storm within you that's questioning its own viability, every second

After all this,

Is it change that you're really seeking or is it just convenience?

Because change isunadulterated courage
