Do not be afraid, let's talk about it

I was working on my senior thesis research proposal, which was due within two days. I did enough research and was feeling quite sleepy. I looked up for my phone to check the time and it was 2:30 am . I logged into my instagram account and saw a post by one of my favorite photographers. He wrote " Do you face a phase in your life, where you do not have any energy, you do not know the purpose of anything.Everything become meaningless. There is nothing to wake up for every morning. Nothing to accomplish ... " And I thought everyone of us in one way or another way feel the same way. Everything in our life seems well, but deep down, we are not happy and the problem is we do not know the reason. If the situation stays quiet for longer term, we name that as " Depression".

Here it is really important to know the difference between being sad and being depressed. I myself came to know about it very recently. In one of the sessions organized by the wellness center at our University, where Mam Rania, a well-known psychologist told us the difference. If a person is sad, it mean there is some reason behind that, but being sad without any reason is called depression, though we use both of them for the same purpose. The reason, why I am talking about the difference is we have to know whether we are actually sad or depressed, then we can start working on it.

I can give my own example. I am going to complete my undergraduate life very soon and I am very excited about it. I am hoping to have more adventures, more experiences, more learning, self growth and much more for my upcoming life. Let's be honest here. Every one of us have a story of struggle. Though they are not the same, but they all are worth telling. If you are going to complete one of the milestones of your life, then definitely you have gone through some sort of challenges or struggles, don't you?  We all face criticisms, hatred at some point of our life. People tries to put us down and make feel us like we cannot do anything in our lives. And somehow they are being successful in this. We take their comments too seriously and starts thinking about those. With the passage of time, we also starts thinking what they wants us to think. We blame ourselves, lose our interests in our studies, leave what we love to do, lose hope, stop talking to people around us, which mostly leads to depression and people find it difficult to come out of it and they find suicide as an ultimate solution.

If a person is suffering from depression, of course it is not easy for her/him to discuss about it, because the person does not know her/himself what she/he feels. There have been so many cases, where the person tried to approach others’ for help, but there are no prominent results. It is very important to share your problems with your close one or you think of a person, who can understand you and close to you. In this way you can feel a little bit comfortable. If that is not the case, write down whatever is going in your mind. Trust me writing helps a lot. Reading self- help books is also another great source. If you think, you are in depression, try to change your routine or day to day activities. Do whatever you love to do. This way your mind will divert. I know it is difficult to do all these, but nothing is impossible. Please Please do not be too harsh on yourselves, because you have a beautiful life ahead of you.

Do not afraid to share your problem, let’s talk about it.
