“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not” – Dr. Seuss.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not” - Dr. Seuss.
The reason for wanting to become a VOF correspondent - as Dr. Seuss simply puts it – is so that “things can get better”. Each of us have come from different countries, have gone through various experiences and have lived to tell countless stories. Nevertheless, we all have 3 things in common: 1. We’re all victims; 2. We’re all survivors; and 3. Our visions for the future are all the same – we all want peace, gender equality, no violence & respect for all.

My visions for my life, my community and the world, all revolve around a few things: gender equality, no (cultures of) violence against women & children and respect for all. Being a VOF correspondent would give me the chance to connect, communicate and collaborate with individuals all around the world. It would also give me the opportunity to address, discuss and evaluate issues and probable solutions with individuals just like myself.

As I mentioned in one of my previous assignment, Web 2.0 (aka the pen) is mightier than the sword; and by being a VOF correspondent, I would have the ability to learn, use and promote Web 2.0 as a voice for the empowerment of women and children, as well as for gender equality.

My dream behind Saving Angel is to eliminate violence against women and children, gender inequality and bullying worldwide. Having the ability to be a VOF correspondent would give me the chance to learn about the experiences that victims go through on a daily basis around the world; it would give me the ability to discuss (on larger platforms) issues that are pertinent to citizens worldwide; and it would give me the opportunity to communicate with those who have the power to make changes.

The Lorax taught me something very important – unless you care enough to seek out the avenues that can make your dreams come true, you will forever be stuck thinking and complaining about what could be – rather than completing your dream and experiencing “what is”. I know what my dream is – so I’m going to seek out all the avenues possible that can make my dream come true. Being a VOF correspondent is one of the many avenues I am seeking out – starting Saving Angel is another one – managing and promoting charitable events is another one – speaking out at seminars and workshops is another. These are all examples of how I can make my dreams come true. “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not”. Dr. Seuss was right – if you care enough about something – like ending violence against women and children & promoting gender equality – then you’ll do something about it.

The amazing thing about this is, you don’t have to be a victim to feel the hurt, to experience their pain, to feel their sorrow. By speaking out, by actively participating in activities that will raise awareness, address these issues and put an end to them – you are caring enough about these issues to make your dreams come true, the dreams of the victims come true and the dreams of the survivors come true.

Never forget - “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not” – Dr. Seuss.
