A Thousand Words

This is a link I looked at today. It is pictures of girls and women submitted to the New York Times to show why we need Education and Empowerment for Girls and Women all over the globe.

While most of these pictures are very powerful. I find it distasteful when the person who submitted does not even know the name of who is in the picture (or even the location of where they are). Krista McCannon's picture (third from the last) that is \"somewhere in Botswana\" is the kind of pictures I saw taken often when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica. The people taking the pictures don't seem to want to take the time to get to know the people who are having their picture taken, and in this case Ms. McCannon didn't even find out where she was when this picture was taken. Instead these people (often children) are used as a commodity in \"look where I went\" picture books. This is one of the greatest crimes against humans and a root of of the continued neo-colonialism that we see within so many developing countries today.
