Feminist Friday: Cross-Coalition Learning and Collaboration continues!

The Shifting the Power Coalition is wrapping up a week of Cross-Coalition Learning and Collaboration.

Today the Samoa YWCA & YWCA of Solomon Islands were joined by Flora Vano of ActionAid Vanuatu and Jay Nasilasila of the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation sharing how partners within the Coalition are organising to drive Women’s Leadership in Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery.

The Women’s Rights and Disability Inclusive Leadership Training in Apia and Honiara is being conducted with the support of DFAT's Pacific Women programme bringing together a total of 60 young women, women leaders, women with disabilities and rural women leaders.

The YWCAs have been provided training tools covering topics such as Women’s Rights Leadership and Protection Framework, Community Protection Planning, Disability Rights and Inclusion from partners ActionAid Australia and Pacific Disability Forum as well as a series of videos from UNDRR which provide an introduction to disaster management systems.

Using case studies from the StPC Handbook participants are developing key actions from preparedness to response & recovery based on the experiences of young women, rural women and women with disabilities identifying their protection priorities are in all stages of disaster management.

The training wraps up this afternoon with the presentation of draft Women-Led disaster preparedness, response and recovery action plans.
