Logging on to Women's Media Activism in Suva, Fiji

An action learning event ahead of International Women's Day (March 4) has resulted in 8 diverse women and a women's rugby club joining the World Pulse community - ready to share, amplify, connect and uplift!

"As a young feminist I can log on and share women's stories"

"I can reclaim my voice, my passion for writing"

"I can reconnect with my own voice and connect with other women sharing their stories"

"We have found a women's space"

They are young feminists supporting young women leaders and an inter-generational network of women and girls learning, leading and organising together, to young feminists involved in community media and commnity empowerment to women making new strides on the rugby field and in publishing. And they are committed to affirming that women's voices, women's stories, our voice, our stories count!

"joining World Pulse has made me think about my own vision, and realising that this is a safe space for my writing. I can see it is a space to engage with other LGBTQI  young women and share with young people from my church"

Our reflective discussion on commitments to Women and the Media in the Beijing Platform for Action highlighted the challenges we have experienced in ensuring that the media spaces, our places of accessing information and communication are not always accessible, and not always safe and secure. Women's news. including women's achievements in sports are often relegated invisible !

Even the information feeds that come our way via our smartphones are not connecting us with women's stories from the global south or the wider feminist movement.

"Scrolling through World Pulse we can see the power of women's own narratives"

"I'm encouraged by the number of young women on World Pulse"

"I reviewed the Community Guidelines and feel more confident as I can see I have a non-judgemental readership"

The action learning session, which also included a chance to chat with World Pulse's Jensine Larsen and Dawn Arteaga made the connection to World Pulse even more personal!

Special thanks to Audrey for the coordination support and the Support Unit of Pacific Women Shaping Pacific Development for the use of the Pawa Meri Room!
