VOLUNTEERING IN AFRICA

VOLUNTEERING IN AFRICA.

BY SIMON  MUREU

In September 18th 2014 the united nations security council adopted its resolution 2177 (2014) which was to look at  the outbreak of the deadly virus…. Ebola Diseases in the western Africa region.

Accordingly in part 10 of this said resolution, it commands the continued contribution and commitment of international health and humanitarian workers to respond urgently to the Ebola out- break.

Ebola was seen as a major disaster and therefore the same part 10 called up- on all relevant actors to put on all the necessary arrangements to help fight this deadly killer.

The call was widely heard and many people mostly Health workers agreed to volunteer themselves to come to Africa to help save people out of death.

In the said resolution- part 13 the Un security council’s “ decides to remain seized of the matter”. In other words to deal with the matter for as long.

This means Ebola out breaking is for us for as long and the security council is there to continue making call- out for Health workers to response to the dangers.

If one is to have a critical out- look Ebola Disease looks as if its regional. This is In Africa. We cannot forget the same menace may break anywhere in the wider world. The major problem the peace keeping personnel is having is lack of information related to countries they are being deployed.

Many health workers travelled to West Africa without a Historical out-look.

Right now, Ebola is an African Problem and health workers would continue to travel to Africa. AS a certified chaplain in Disaster management I may streach that at de-briefing stage more information may be included. For example.

Africa is a continent by its self far and wide its people are one, many tribes, different culture and traditions with varied beliefs.

One must be made to understand that Ebola is just one virus among many. Its of great important to prepare a co- worker which all important factors of given region. Not all Africans feed on apes and snakes. What are we to hear if Ebola strike both London and Paris? Where would the balance without having enough information of the said two cities be?

In the course EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE AWARENESS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR PEACE KEEPING PERSONNEL. A topic in civil rights in disasters is needed. The 2177 resolutions should bring in the information for all health worker be added and given to health workers before they travel abroad to offer services.
