I was born in an era where a girl future is to marry , bear child & take care of family. My parents started looking for suitable bridegroom for me, but I told that I will pursue college education. Knowing this they told me "you can study as long as a groom selected for you". From that day onward when I saw an unmarried girl taking up higher studies immediately a thought coming to my mind that " perhaps her parents unable to  find a groom for her, so that she is studying

Hello, SNIGDHA,

Thank you for sharing your perspective on marriage and education. A child can only believe what her parents condition her mind to think.

I read in your profile that you already took your masters. I’m glad you were able to pursue your education.

Thanks for signing up to be part of the Encouragement Team. It’s one of the important roles to have on World Pulse. :)

i am fortunate enough that, after 7/8 years of marriage my husband encouraged me to go for law degree, with great opposition from mother in law i stated my second innings. Today i am happy that i discharged all my duties like taking care of my kids and family now I am a legal professional working on women issues .

That's great that you have a supportive husband. :) Congrats on your law degree!
How are old are your children now? I'm happy you are helping women with their legal issues. We need more like you in this world. :)

Dear SNIGDHA,
Its very sad to hear what you went through your childhood. It must have been very tough for you. So was wondering did your parents succeeded giving you up for your husband? Or they changed their mind?
Child marriage is prevalent especially in Africa. Thanks for bringing it up. I hope you have a great day.
Regards

Hello Snigdha,

Welcome back:-) Thanks for sharing your story. Do you feel that attitudes toward arranged marriages and the roles of women are changing in your region during your lifetime? I'm glad, too, that you were able to receive that education that you desired, but what happened after you received your education? Did you receive pressure to go along with what your parents and society expected you to do? I'm really curious to hear more about your story, dear.

Hope you're well and having a great week!

Yes, that's excellent!

Great to hear on your mission. That's sad that they abandoned her.

Hope you're doing well and having a good day!

In India now both arranged marriage and love marriage along with arranged cum love marriage are in practice , where the girl is educated and financially independent her views means means a lot in pre & post marriage life.

I see. Well, I hope the situation becomes more woman-friendly in our lifetime so girls and women always have a choice. Thanks for clarifying.
