Empower women to access agricultural land rights with me

I am impacting women farmers of Pune district, Maharashtra by lobbying district government officials such as the collector and the block revenue officer (Tahsildar) to carry out a drive to reinforce agricultural land title registration in women’s names, By 2020, all women farmers in Purandar block of Pune district shall avail of agricultural schemes jointly with their husbands.

District collector, Pune issues a circular that instructs block revenue officer (Tahsildar) to carry out a drive to reinforce agricultural land title registration in women’s name in Purandar block by November 2020. Meetings with atleast 2200 women in Purander block to build advocacy.

Objectives of the project on land rights

1)10% increase in the number of women over the baseline data of women farmers in Purandar, who will be ready to claim their land rights in 15 villages of Purandar block by July 2019.

2) 20% of women farm land holders will apply to the agriculture department to avail the existing agricultural schemes in 15 villages of Purandar block by March 2020.

3) Liaising with existing alliances and networks to strengthen the state level advocacy on rural women’s land and equal inheritance rights by September 2019.

Process:

• Reached up to 2050 women across 15 villages with block level campaign programmes on property right issues.

• Conducted legal trainings with 242 woman farmers and with 100 single woman on the land rights across 15 villages

• Carried out a signature campaign with 1100 community people and key stakeholders including male members of the family, elected representatives with demand for joint ownership of wife and husband on agricultural land. Thereafter, we submitted a demand letter with the signatures of 1100 people to the Block Revenue Officer of Purandar.

• Formation and enrollment of 7 women farmer groups with agriculture department under Atma scheme to get them benefits of agricultural schemes.
