The Beginning

Hello, people!

My name is Sowmya, and I'm typing this on a sturdy laptop while sitting on a comfortable chair in a beautiful, artistic and cosy co-working space — a clear indication of my privilege and exposure.

This is my first interaction with the World Pulse community, and I hope this is the beginning of a journey of learning, unlearning, sisterhood, inspiration, and growth — for myself and the world.

A few things about me —

1) I'm a thinker, learner, writer, and educator — all of which have empowered me to see the world for what it is: grey, unequal and unsafe. But my experiences have also taught me that there is \"enough room in this wide world for you and me\", and enough space for hope, courage, kindness and vulnerability to exist.

2) I love all forms of creative expressions  — they help me think, learn, express and love.

3) I believe in the power of questions. During my journalism training, I was repeatedly taught to \"ask questions\", a skill and a mindset which has helped me immensely in life. Questioning the status quo leads to changing definitions, pushing the envelope and becoming harbingers of change. I have allowed myself to question the definitions of several social constructs such as sex, gender, identity, caste, religion, spirituality, community, and most importantly — education and learning.

4) Women have been my pillars of support right from childhood (another indication of my good fortune!). I have loved, laughed, learned with/from women of all walks of life, and I truly believe that each woman on this planet is a phenomenal powerhouse of talent, potential and courage.

I'm immensely grateful and thrilled to begin this enriching journey of sisterhood with all of you on Women's Day, and as the free T-shirt says, \"Every day is Women's Day on World Pulse.\"

Feel free to reach out to me for everything under the Sun, and beyond! :)
