My Pulsing Journey of Discovery

Three years ago, I registered with the intention of becoming a vital voice of the World Pulse community. One week ago, I finally clicked the submit button to publish my first post. That tiny click turned my anxiety into profound interactions. I marvel at all the incredible women I am now befriending. I cannot believe I ever hesitated and doubted myself after receiving such a warm welcome from all my sisters in this hood. The nature of my personal relationships certainly has evolved.

I had discovered World Pulse through social media. One tweet is all it took to lead me to an event in NYC. Three incredible women wowed me on stage, Voices of Our Future correspondents Sunita, Malayapinas and Jacqueline. They inspired me to risk exposure and dive in. On my return home though, the experience felt unreal and very different from the context I found myself in. The huge network of global women on World Pulse overwhelmed me. I grappled with not being ‘good enough.’

At grassroots, teen girls in Soweto were far removed from NYC. They were struggling to bridge the digital divide with limited access to computers. They risked losing ground. Their voices deserved to be heard. I became their bridge, sharing short snippets of their vibrant selves through stories on a blog. My medium of preference had always been visual imagery until this tipping point. Words spilled out of me, sometimes gushing and at other times stifled until they flowed again. During my three years of silence on the World Pulse platform, I was not muted at all. I found my voice along with theirs.

I'm grateful to be born in this time, the era of the Internet and all that accompanies it. To be able to shape my world in a way my grandmother never dreamt possible. I can only imagine the future technology that awaits our daughters.

I'm in awe of the collective heartbeat that now pulses through my veins, quickening with every victorious voice I encounter. I know that this is where I'm meant to be and the time is ripe. Engaging with the World Pulse community authentically amplifies our impact. May each one of us grow in the strength of our global sisterhood. May our united stories truly be the tellers of us.
