My Changemaking Resources

It took me quite a long time to develop a voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent.” ~ Madeleine Albright

It may take you a while to find your voice and develop it into one that can be heard, but once you do have it you won’t ever want to let it go. Imagine someone trying to silence your voice after all the trouble you’ve gone through to get it? The nerve of some people! That’s what makes this quote so memorable, it’s speaks to the part of us that doesn’t want to give up the things we’ve worked so hard to attain. First, work on developing your voice, and you won’t have to worry about defending it, that will come naturally.

My Voice

This is one of my most favourable quotes from Madeleine Albright the first woman to have become the United States Secretary of States. I believe that women empowerment starts with everyone developing their voice. Your voice is one of your most powerful assets and once you fine it you can not only impact change for yourself but change for your community and beyond. With my voice, my dream to impact as many women and girls in my community is achievable as I can speak out about the issues that is negatively affecting my community and use my voice as a resource to bring change so that I am my own personal resource. Sometimes we only need to search within us to get the resource that we need.

My family and network of friends

My friends and network are a great source of resource for me. I did not need to look beyond my immediate circle of friends and family members to get the volunteers that I needed to join me pursue my vision to bring change to the victims of obstetric fistula in my community. Sometimes it usually only takes talking to someone to realise that you both share the same passion.

My Community Resources.

Did you realise that sometimes we leave the things closer to us to go out of our way to search hard and spend hard for things that are just under our nostrils? Yes, I am talking about our local libraries, community centres etc. Very often if you are fortunate to live in an environment with a local resource like a library you will realise that you can access the internet for free where you can use search resources, social media like Facebook etc to connect to the world to carry out your mission. With Community Centres, you can use them for free or hire them at very cheap rate to carry out your functions whilst you set up your own facility. So, it is very important that one be part of their community it pays when you least expect at desperate times. Talk to community leaders for local networking and connections as there maybe someone that knows someone that knows someone that can help you, and also, source your material assets and volunteers locally first before looking somewhere else. It is working for me so far.

Cheers
