VOF Self-Care Poems

Dear wonderful VOF Leaders,

During last week's calls we asked you all to write a three line poem about how you were feeling. The words you shared with us were honest, beautiful, and inspiring. The poems below are made up of the short poems you created last week -- some speak of struggles, while others speak of happiness and hope. Together, they create a beautiful and powerful picture of what we are experiencing right now.

Thank you for being willing to participate in this exercise - even those of you who don't consider yourself poets! I hope you'll agree that what you've created, both individually and once these are combined, is truly amazing!

Deep Dark Night

The shades of darkness tells of my mood

but the glimmer of light which pierces through excites my emotions to arise with hope.

Deep dark night tonight,

total silence around,

inspiration is knocking at the door!

Excited to be alive, i decide today to take my life one day at a time.

No matter what the world throws at me, i will continue to sparkle and shine bright.

Undiluted Hope

Dark Nairobi Night, Signs of life outside,

My soul awakens.

A night to remember; voices in my head; hope in my heart.

So many voices out there.

How mine is different? How mine can make any difference?

Pursuing my own positive vision rather than following someone's negative example.

The moon so large and bright, giving me undiluted hope,

tomorrow beckons me.

My life at peace

I am a healthy black bird standing on a tree besides a spring.

Singing qiw qiw qiw... Doing all I want to do...Yes I can do all things because I'm healthy.

The Sun is shining, voices are flowing into the room, and my heart opens.

My life at peace,

Wind blowing bliss,

I feel like dancing.

Water flowing by the stream, birds singing happily makes my heart peaceful.

Appreciation of God's creation makes life amazing.

I am the light shining through your heart, remember me as I,

you are all with me.

The sunlight shining through my window

Sweet songs from the birds outside

A beautiful day lies ahead.

Germination is the beginning of growth as an idea or vision sprouts.

Music to the soul

Raindrops on my window,

A breath of freshness,My heart is bouncing with joy of a new day.

Rain on the rooftop, music to the soul,

heat gives way to cold, my weary bones sigh time to bundle up and keep warm.

The time is now, time to change.

My heart is heavy but i must work to see the change i want to see.

Lived hope willed and true.

Grateful, grateful

Bold orange sun sets, slipping off to sleep,

thankful! another day well done.

Pausing to listen to my heart,

it speaks in a whisper,

grateful grateful.

I thought I had in me a light,

I thought I could make the world bright but then I met you all and your light made the sight even more delight.

My heart is full, brimming, with an overwhelming kind of power that tells me I can be anyone.

Wow! This is so cool, Stephanie.

I was so resistant to take this exercise because I always argue that I am not a poetic individual. But, look at what you did with these little poems you inspired us to write.

I feel a part of this lovely creative piece and I am thankful to you all for inspiring us to achieve this together.

This is amazingly beautiful! And I love it!

I'm so glad that you all were willing to take part in this exercise! I don't consider myself a poetic person either so I can relate to the discomfort of writing a poem, but I would say that we are all very poetic, based on the poems we wrote last week! I am so amazed at what we were all able to create together, in such a short amount of time!

This is so beautiful. It shows you what we can achieve if we brought our minds together. Together we make beautiful music.

Wow, this is so beautiful. The way you group them are just so amazing. It is just beautiful to see those hastily written words composed into something so unique and beautiful. Together our collective voices sure tell a story. I love it. Thanks for taking the time to produce this beautiful piece, Stephanie.
