The success story of “BHAI BHAUNI” SHG, Dhenkanal,Odisha, India

The success story of “BHAI BHAUNI” SHG is an example to the people who belongs to unorganized sector. If people take an inspiration and encouragement from the said beneficiary, they could too improve their living condition. The Govt. through various schemes especially under IWMP ( Integrated Watershed Management Program- used as drought mitigation program in the drought prone areas)  is putting efforts to support the community to improve the standard of living.

Being inspired by “Awareness Camp & Training programme” on SHG and with consultation with the Watershed Officials of Kishorenagar Block, Dhenkanal district, Odisha, India, the poor unemployed Women of Sanjamura gathered in a general meeting to discuss the financial problem and the way to overcome the poverty. They formed a SHG in the name of “BHAI BHAUNI SHG” consisting of 10 (ten) Female members with the help of Watersheds Officials on Date 14.12.2012. They opened a Saving Bank A/C bearing No. 6085 on 23/02/2013 in the name of their SHG at UCO Bank, Kishorenagar Branch. Every month they are saving Rs. 50/- and depositing the same in the BANK. They did meeting and selected a President and a Secretary from the group.

The SHG received 1st gradation and the “Revolving Fund” of L.H Component was disbursed by IWMP –IV Kishorenagar. A sum of Rs. 19,372/- only had been provided as Livelihood revolving fund during the month of March, 2013. They utilized the fund in rearing of goats and They purchased  ten goat in the amount of Rs.24,000 with our L.H R.F Support of Amount 19,372 /- . After 18 month, they gained some profit. They distributed the profit among themselves after recovery of Revolving Fund of L.H.

When the OWDM ( Odisha Watershed Development Management)  Staffs visited to Radhakrishna mws, Sanjamura they became very happy by seeing the running SHG and their Livelihood activity on rearing of Goats. Now they are running their own business and earning profits satisfactorily. The financial conditions of the members are much better than earlier. They are repaying their R.F loan from the profits. They have recovered a sum of Rs.19, 372.00 (Nineteen thousand three hundred seventy two)-273USD till date. They are also inspiring others to come forward for formation of Self Help Groups. Their financial position has improved considerably and they are now leading a comfortable life. Thus, due to the formation of SHG they are able to save some money which they could spend whenever the need arises. Other women of the village are getting encouragement by seeing the success of this SHG and more groups are formed in that village since then.
