Reflections & Learning's on Facilitation Practice

Reflection & Learning’s on Facilitation Practice

I met five women in Abu Dhabi – UAE and all these five women were from different nationalities. Three were from Nepal (Nirmala Basnet, Chandni and Shanti Thapa) and two from Uganda (Shira Negesa & Alice). It was a wonderful experience to meet them, talk to them and get to know their life experiences. At first, it was a challenging task to talk to them but as I proceeded to create a bond of oneness, they started revealing their inner feelings. While talking to them, I could see an ocean of pain and desperation. In the very first instance, they were reluctant to speak. It was difficult for me to motivate them. Oftentimes they asked why I am “after them” and what do I need from them. These questions smelled mistrust. I could see there were many questions for me to answer. They were hesitant at first. They were unwilling to reveal their stories but, I didn’t lose heart. I kept trying each day until we became friends. They revealed their side of stories and I kept them encouraging.

Being with these five women taught me so many lessons. They taught to keep going even when going becomes tough. They taught me to smile even if you are sad from within. They taught me how to move on in life even tough life is not inviting always. These five women taught me persistence is the success. My facilitation practice proved negotiation has power and nothing is impossible if you want to take a lead. This practice also taught me that in every corner of the world there are change makers waiting for a stimulus. The World out there is full of beautiful and brave people and I find five of them around me.
