Ambassadors and Encouragers within this Global Sisterhood

As these first Spirit Awards were first announced with a call for us to send in nominations, my first thought was, as I know it was for many others, that everyone here is a phenomenal leader. And my next thought, my hope that everyone here knows through and through that they are beloved, powerful leaders within World Pulse and throughout the world.

Then I began to realize the gift we were given by our brilliant, loving World Pulse Team. The encouragement to write posts about how much we mean to each other and how much more than glad, how ecstatic we all are to find each other. A celebration for those of us nominating each other by describing how we know each other, how affected we are by each others’ stories, how inspired by each others’ courage, love and community action toward a very different world. A celebration of how often we now send extra messages, by responding to each others’ stories, through our internal message system, on other media, by those moments when we Skype, Zoom or even meet in person with the utter joy it all brings - and then by turning it around and writing about it for us all to know and celebrate. Reading these stories for weeks gave me an even greater level of understanding of what we have here together. To have been able to write about what so many of you have meant to me, with time I would have nominated you all. I knew I wasn’t alone in that idea. And I knew that this was a new level of collective experience we were taking part in, writing, reading, letting this strength and love fill our hearts and be sent off to thrill each other.

To be honoured as an Ambassador is an experience I have never had before. Not like this. The wave of love from you, being able to read and send love to everyone named - and we all know that means everyone who is here - this wave has filled my heart and I feel it still with every beat, the combination of you, all you are doing, and all the connections that we have with each other. My heart is full to overflowing.

Here is what being a Member and Encourager, and then an Ambassador has done for me. I became a Member and and Encourager on the same day. I had been reading stories without realizing that I could join and be part of this. Discovering that I could work together with you was astounding. Discovering that we could be all in direct contact with each other in discussion of how to bring about this monumental change, was a dream come true. A dream that has been made possible for us. I have met you here and know that I am in the company of all of us who together live for the day that we do not experience or witness the pain of one more woman or girl. The pain that women and girls face daily due to all of these forms of violence against women. This pain that we have had the courage to name and heal from. Also that we learn of brave women in the past whose stories have been stolen and hidden, in this relatively short time frame that we are repeatedly told generation to generation “this is the way it has always been”. We are undoing the lie. Despite what we are up against with the many ways our power and beauty continue to be undermined, we are finding each other. In bringing together our visionary work, work by women who know and feel in our bones that this is what we want to use our precious lives for. Women doing this work who continue to be ridiculed at best, most often imprisoned, raped, tortured or killed. Here we are raising our voices and finding each other. We are carrying forward our collective visionary determination to bring peace, end every form of violence, and bring what we have to offer as women into leadership for a different form of government, a different form of economy, a different form of life among people on this planet. Now we have World Pulse as our home.

So I realized, why not have Awards for this? Why not celebrate this dedication, inspiration, strength, growth, beauty of who we are and what we are accomplishing together? The gifts of these awards speak to all of us.

Without you, there would be no story for us Ambassadors to tell. There would be no moment that women are hearing about you and your stories, your work, your courage, your moments of joy. No news that women are coming together and becoming empowered believers in ourselves. We Ambassadors would have no story about our finding each other. About us being 70,000 strong and growing. About us knowing each others’ stories. About the news we are able to share, the work we are doing on our own and with each other. That is what being an Encourager and an Ambassador has done for me. I keep learning, and keep meeting and staying in touch with you. I simply cannot stop talking about what we have here. And about you. What you have been through, what you are doing and what is on the global list we are making together and working on, of what needs to change. Of what is possible. Being an Ambassador is all about letting everyone know that we have this together, World Pulse. Whether readers are simply inspired, strengthened and emboldened just knowing we exist, or jump right in, it is you who make the role of the Ambassador possible. It is you who is behind the look of joy on the faces of women hearing about you for the first time.

These roles of Ambassador and Encourager, the values of the Team who behind the scenes keep this website humming, and this web of connections that we are all weaving together here, are a haven for all of us who dream, envision and bring our passion together for a world in which every woman and girl on this planet is free and respected, a world in which violence ends for everyone and for the Earth herself. This is Global Sisterhood. We are World Pulse. Every one of us is World Pulse. We continue to find each other and work together. We continue to celebrate. This is Global Sisterhood.
