The Gift of Hope

Hope lies in our connections with each other
The Power in Meeting

I feel hope when I learn that women are rising

When one woman has reached another in need

When a woman who has been punished for speaking out

Meets a sister.

When girls learn that they have a right to be free

To choose their lives

When a widow wins back her home and land

When women farming sustainably have a good crop year

When women plant trees

When women get girls into schools

When girls have pads so they won't miss class

Or be taunted by teachers and boys

I feel hope when menstrual huts are closed down

When girls have mentors like my World Pulse sisters here,

And all of these women's organizations forming everywhere

As we find each other

And rise.

I feel hope when I hear of safe houses for women fleeing violence

When I hear of trafficked women being freed

I feel hope and I celebrate when I hear or see photos

Of women gathering in these women centres

Being taught a trade

Having money for the first time

Having other women to talk with

About what they have gone through

About what is happening now

About what they want to see happen

About our right to be free

I feel hope as we find each other

When we are able to tell our stories

About what we know and have experienced

And what we see is possible

I feel hope when we know our own worth

Through our conversations with each other

I feel hope in the meetings we have with each other

To know the work that World Pulse sisters are doing

Encouraging so many women

Creating a safety net for women

Globally

And that so many girls

At such young ages

Have the chance to be inspired

By an older sister, a mama, an aunty, a grandmother,

A World Pulse sister

I feel such hope because we are connected now

I feel hope in the work that every one of you is doing

Knowing how many girls have been touched by your sweet loving care

I feel such hope knowing that now thousands of women and girls

Have been given the opportunity to meet and speak together

And believe in themselves

Because of the work of World Pulse sisters

I feel hope because I am alive and unafraid to speak the truth of what is going on

And that I am so far from being alone

I feel hope in the connections we are making across all our organizations

I feel hope because we have each other

I feel hope and I am continually inspired by the work and the energy of all of you, my sisters,

And of the daring of all of us here

Willing to live outside the boxes, the prisons, the torture chambers we have been forced into

Our bodies, and our minds

In too many ways throughout our lives

I feel hope with every one of us as we fly free

I feel hope in celebrating all of you

Undoing these lives of servitude that we have been told are our sole purpose,

Breaking free together for the world we know is possible

Bringing our strength and brilliance, that we were told does not exist

Feeling it rise in our very bones, through our hearts

Though our discussions

And now out to the world

I feel hope because I am alive and unafraid to speak the truth about what is going on

And that I am so far from being alone

I feel hope in celebrating each one of you,

My World Pulse Sisters

Fly, dear Sisters

Spread those magical wings

Built of tears and determination

Transformed by our joy in working together

Spread those magical wings

And fly!

Hello Tamarack.
This message of hope is really inspiring. Just like what I see in my community of women getting their own money for the first time, learning a trade, and all that. So encouraging. Let me spread my magical wings oiled with love and support from your and the sisters her.

Love and hugs.

Dearest sister Tamarack,
What a beautiful and heart warming poem on hope and women as agents of change that the world needs badly. If women offline and out of the ambit of digital technology can also get a taste of this value of living in a safety net made of women in collaboration, we will see massive wave of change. Loved your poem, Tam!
Love ans hugs,

My dear sister Urmila,
How lovely to get your message. Every time we describe what we have now to a woman who has been isolated, I believe she feels the safety net. I think of the many thousands of women you have woven this net for. So much love to you.
Deep in the Sisterhood,
Tam

Dear sister Tam,
Few things I have read have filled my heart as much as your poem did. It is like meeting you afresh, from a new angle, and an army of the women of your tribe, armed with weapons of all sorts and overpouring with purpose and determination. But is was also confronting the weight of all the reasons why we need to have hope, which is all the battles we have conquered which are still all the battles we are fighting. It is seeing our unity, resilience, faith in our vision and skills, and our determination in spite of the challenges. It's like a canvas of black. with the word hope spelled across the centre in white, and we have the task of extending it across every inch of canvass so that no black is left. We celebrate that word, because it spells our victory, the beginnings of it, the extend of it, and the radiance when that victory is complete. And so, hope reminds us of our purpose, fuels our passion, and keeps us accountable. I'm just so in love with the imagery you paint through your poem sis Tam, I am in danger of writing you an essay as a commentary!

So I will say thank you, for seeing all of us, what has been accomplished, what is being accomplished, what is possible, and why every woman and girl is needed.
Your words spell hope I so many ways, and I am so so happy to read it, and SEE!!

Much love in sisterhood :)

My dear sister Nini,
You make me smile so broadly, my heart full, and you make me laugh from my belly. Thank you so much for writing about the ways that this poem touched you. Though we both love to put words to "paper", I imagine that should we ever get the chance to meet in person, we would be talking non-stop for days and days. What a tremendous gift from World Pulse that we all get to "meet" this way.
Deep sisterhood love,
Tam

Hello, Mama Tam,

This world needs hope so much, and you have birthed that through your poem. Your message reminds me of the seeds of love we shared at our Thriving Thursday, and how you willingly and humbly received these and plant them. Thank you for ending this year uplifting us as you always do.

This year was tough. We were worried when you were physically unwell, but we celebrate that you rise above it! May you be well and healthy in 2021, filled with love, joy, peace, grace, and abundance!

Karen my dear sister,
Thank you so much. It is so true that together through our messages to each other on our zooms, and here through our reading to know each others' lives and work, we are building connections that have never happened before so strongly, across the world. I celebrate this deeply. Thank you for your concern about my health struggles last year, I am happy to say that I have been much better these past 6 months!
