Let's Deal With It - Eliminating Discrimination: Join us for the change

Kia ora, Happy new decade to you all. My name is Tayyaba and I am the Campaign Manager for Shakti Community Council Inc.'s (operating in NZ and Australia) campaign, 'Lets Deal With It - Eliminating Discrimination: Join us for the change.' Last year New Zealanders were shaken by the Christchurch Terror attack, one of the worst in terms of lives taken in the world of recent times. Our women's refuge organisation that serves women of minority background was doubly impacted, and we supported 13 families in Christchurch alongside others directly affected. It's why we know more needs to be done so history does not repeat itself. The campaign is phase two of our work from the conference we held in the aftermath of March 15th titled the 'Trans-Tasman Conference on Racial Equity'. Approximately 300 participants attended, including MPs from Australia. I am so excited that as New Zealanders we will now lead on the behavioral change that is required on eliminating all forms of discrimination. Given we have now done all the thinking we are now full speed ahead on implementing and producing a high quality campaign. I am writing to the World Pulse community as we would love to hear from anyone out there who can support the campaign in some way. Our launch in Parliament (NZ) and local events (in NZ and Australia) are centered around having a cup of tea with a cookie as the attendees discuss different forms of discrimination using Ara Taiohi (a youth development agency operating in NZ and Australia) Mosaic - Social Cohesion Cards resource, and how to affect change.  Here are some links with more information:

I very much look forward to hearing about the possibility of hearing from the World Pulse community on how you can join hands with us in this mission.  Happy to have a more in depth conversation over skype.  Ngā mihi, Tayyaba Tayyaba Khan   I    Campaign Manager Shakti New Zealand Email: letsdealwithit@shakti.org.nz Discrimination create rippling effects in our society. Hi Tayyaba,
This is a tremendous initiative. I was not aware of the Trans-Tasmanian Sea tensions between your country and Australia. Does this also include restricting movement between both countries for people more recently living in NZ wanting to visit Australia, as well as addressing racism within both countries? The more you can describe progress you are making on this, the more we can all learn, send in any news or ideas that could be helpful in all directions and deepen ways to address racism everywhere. I look forward to following what develops and to learning more. Also to find out what might well be similar issues to Canada as our three countries do have similar pasts.

Hi Tayyaba,
This is surely an interesting campaign. Thank you so much for sharing and for your very first post. We look forward to more of your posts and also on the updates of your campaign. Stay blessed and stay safe in these trying times.

Dear Tayyaba,

It is very nice of you to do that work with the intention of eliminate discrimination. But my dear you should know that you cannot eliminate discrimination. All societies are based on discrimination, starting from the fact that we are humans men women, girls, boys the elder Blacks Whites, Hispanic, Vikings, Christian and Muslims etc. I am telling you this just to prepare you for the real world else. The best would be to count accomplishing good results on some steps towards diminishing negative discrimination. Regarding History not repeating it self, it is proved that history over many hundred years does repeat it self. A great example is the COVID19 Virus - In 1918-19 there was a pretty similar virus in Europe killing thousands of people all across the World including Portugal. If you do some research you will even find out that the Masks for protection have not changed much. I wish you good luck with your project and hope that you will receive as much support as possible and great results.
