STAND UP FOR POVERTY ERADICATION WE WERE ASKED TO JOIN FORCES WITH PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD ON JULY 07/07/07 AND OCTOBER 17TH-19TH OCTOBER 2008 SO THAT WE DEMAND PROMISES  THAT WERE MADE BY OUR GOVERNMENTS TO END POVERTY AND ACHIEVE THE MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS BY 2015 ARE KEPT.

SO I WAS ABLE TO BLOW THE WHISTLE AND MOBILIZED SO MANY PEOPLE IN THAT CAMPAIGN UNTIL I WAS AWARDED A CERTIFICATE BY THE UN MILLENIUM CAMPAIGN DEPUTY DIRECTOR AND A FEW OTHERS.

It is unfortunate that the World is still struggling in poverty especially the persons with disability especially those who are retarded they need medicines and Diapers and special diet.  So when I started my Volunteer Social Work visiting the parents. I found the majority live in shanties (one roomed iron sheets). Majority i learned that when they married and got their first born disabled, the in-laws chased them out of their matrimonial homes. They In laws claimed that their Ancestral history they do not give birth to disabled. I remember one parent told me when the Husband went to visit her after giving birth, when he found that she gave birth to a girl child with Spina difida, She had a big fresh wound at her back. He told the wife do not bring this "thing" in my house.

They realized that those who thought they were worse they found there were more serious cases some have two disabled/retarded children they comforted one another. We started a Project whereby I looked for an instructor who showed them how to make beads and baskets,

So  I decided to register with the Government a Group Disability Organization for them. I invited them to a Safe Space whereby meetings on Saturdays took place I visited the Government Offices enquired how they can benefit  At first, I invited a Doctor who assessed them at the Safe Space they were able to acquire Disability Card with membership Number and be recognized by the Government, By possessing that Card one can own business tax free. They can also import vehicles and goods tax free. Life was improving day by day, so they were so happy started socializing, Also there were forms Income Generating Activity whereby they are given free by the Government i;e  Barber Kits, Salon kits, Sewing/knitting Machines. supporting canes etc.

When the Government Cash Transfer was Launched in 2009.  I managed to enroll some, The Government Officials comes and then I direct them to where they live. They are registered/enrolled and they are able to receive monthly Kshs. 2000. Thus, helps them a lot in buying Diapers. Medicines and food. I enrolled a young mother in the Cash Transfer Program who had two Disabled children. She was depressed, confused she used to ask questions she was telling me she was an Orphan. She was requesting the husband to visit their parents and be cleansed  be blessed by the parents. He ignored.

Whenever the Cash Transfer was released I used to call her first before anyone else to inform her she appreciated so much. So one day I called her she did not respond. At 10pm i received a call on her mobile, so i responded quickly and I asked the whole day i have been calling you but you never responded. To my astonishment I heard a male voice. He told me am the husband, am calling you to inform you that the wife passed on today, I was so shocked.

After the burial, I approached the husband and advised him to take the retarded child to a Catholic home. He declined. the child was on and off in hospital. One day he called me and informed me that the child's condition had deteriorated he was admitted but later died that night, Later, helped the husband to be enrolled as the caregiver of the other disabled girl. The registration was successful and he is now the caregiver,

I introduced and filled them forms from Governments Offices whereby they attach a copy of the cards i helped them to acquire to confirm they have a disability i,e Epileptic. Autism, Mental, physical. Visual etc.

Last year a some people of Visually Impaired invited me and requested me to register a group for them. So I helped them to Register and now they have a Certificate. They were so happy and they requested me to be one of them so as to be guiding them. So there were visually impaired with their guides who supports them. We have started is it keeping Bees hive Project

During this Covid 19 Pandemic Projects have been wiped out. So no business is going on. Imagine how the parents suffer they cannot afford Diapers food etc,,

Disastrous consequences are inevitable when people turn their backs on human values, such as love empathy, especially the special needs cases. By helping those struggling with difficulties we show them deep affection

We need to show love to one another while we are still living especially persons with Disabilities.

Hello, Teresa, Love,

How are you doing, dear? What a heartfelt post. I'm so glad to hear that you help those that are in such need. There lives are already hard enough, without people being cruel. I quite agree that we need to show empathy and love to one another, especially those with disabilities.

Hope you're safe and well, and that you have a good, rest of your week. XX
