“HEAD OR TAIL”: A COIN IS A COIN!

Women though physically weaker in body build and muscle mass than men can perform a given task just as good if given equal opportunity or chance- they are equal to men in other respect. We have intelligent, motivated, achievers and successful women all over the globe today even in less friendly circumstances. Women have generally filled a subordinate position with respect to men. This secondary position has always been associated with a set family structure that differentiated gender roles. These roles limit the girl child from birth even to adulthood in political, civil, economic, social, and cultural affairs. In view of this fact, a platform of action was established - “The Beijing Platform of Action”. It established a set of strategic objectives and explained measures that needed to be taken no later than the year 2000 by governments, the international community, non-governmental organisations, and the private sector in order to eliminate obstacles that hamper gender issues.

The 12 spheres of special concern identified in the document, considered as representative of the main obstacles for the advancement of women, are as follows:
The persistent and increasing burden of poverty on women;
Inequalities and inadequacies in, and unequal access to, education and training;
Inequalities and inadequacies in, and unequal access to, health care and related services;
Violence against women;
The effects of armed or other kinds of conflict on women, including those living under foreign occupation;
Inequality in economic structures and policies in all forms of productive activities and in access to resources;
Inequality between men and women in the sharing of power and decision-making at all levels;
Insufficient mechanisms at all levels to promote the advancement of women Lack of respect for and inadequate promotion and protection of the human rights of women;
Stereotyping of women and inequality in women's access to, and participation in, all communication systems, especially the media;
Gender inequalities in the management of natural resources and in the safeguarding of the environment;
Persistent discrimination against and violation of the rights of the girl child

Just like the two sides of the coin is essential for a coin to be called a coin, so nature in order to ensure continuity in creation has made it mandatory for both the male and female species of a every creature to walk together each performing its functions to produce its kind: the male pollen and female pollen are both necessary for pollination to take place to ensure continuity in plants: in humans, the male sperm and the female eggs are both necessary for reproduction to take place. What about in the animal kingdom, can a lion pregnant another lion? Cock another cock? These same techniques apply to every other living creature.
Truth is we need each other; male or female, we are just two sides of a coin therefore our differences should be celebrated and not be used against one other because “HEAD OR TAIL” A COIN IS A COIN!

NB: I am not a professional writer just like I am not a professional singer but I love to do both: so just after I concluded this article, these lyrics just came flowing through my mind:
I..... NEED..... U
YOU.... NEED....ME
TOGETHER WE NEED EACH OTHER
I ........A.....LONE
YOU........A.....LONE
WILL MAKE VERY LITTLE IM...PART
BUT.......YOU...AND I
I...AND.... YOU
TOGETHER WILL MAKE EACH OTHER SMILEEEEEEEE

Can you make a song out of it and teach it to your kids? I can’t wait for mine to get back so I can teach them!
