INTRODUCTION
Centre For 21st Century Issues (C21st) is a non-governmental profit organization birth to engage and respond to issues shaping development discourse in the 21st century. C21st works from local to global to develop and catalyze cutting edge solutions that ensure a unified bottom up and top bottom approaches that links local actions/solutions to international actions and solutions. In responding to the challenges of the 21st century, C21 programs and activities are organized around the following themes which include gender and women empowerment, health, education, youth development climate change and environment, democracy and governance initiatives.
C21st is one of the partner organizations of Idea Builders initiatives implementing the women mentoring program. There are 13 partner organizations which form the women mentoring partnership and are implementing the WMW program in 8 states across Nigeria from 2011-2013. The WMW program is a project under the gender equality and women’s empowerment project of C21st.
ABOUT WOMEN MENTORING WOMEN PROGRAM
The women mentoring women program is a program whereby young women (mentees) are matched with older and accomplished women in society as their mentors. Mentors under this project are women with advanced experience and knowledge, who take personal interest in helping the career and professional advancement of their mentees. The Mentors are also role models who provide career development, personal support, friendship, and counselling to the mentees.
WMW provides a powerful platform where emerging young women leaders are connected with opportunities to develop their leadership, management and business skills through mentorship.

This program envisions a community of empowered women living lives worthy of emulation while the mission is to inspire a new cadre of young women leaders through mentorship.

WMW is a program that builds and connect a sense of responsibility to the next generation of women leaders and the local community by mobilizing high profile women business leaders from a variety of professions to mentor other women who share their passion and dream of breaking into new fields of endeavour and help create opportunities for younger women to jump start their careers.



PROGRAME COMPONENT



The WMW program have initiated a series of activities that will identity, guide and support young women to lead a life of Choice not Chance so that they can make a positive transition into responsible women leaders. These activities includes




  1. Women Mentoring Women Dinner

  2. Women symposium

  3. Global Mentoring walk



The whole programme starts with the Mentoring Cycle. This is when Mentors and Mentees are paired for a period of three months. The Symposium and Mentoring Walk are the closing activities of a Mentoring Cycle.



MENTORING WALK



The Mentoring Walk is one of the activities of the WMW program where, accomplished women leaders and rising women professionals convene and walk together in their community. As they walk they engage in conversations regarding their challenges and successes, thus establishing a mentoring relationship to help rising women leaders achieve their goals and reach full potential.
The mentoring walk is an opportunity for mentors and mentees to network, share ideas, experiences and knowledge to propel their careers to greater heights .This year the mentoring walk holds on 19th of November 2011 at various locations across Nigeria.
