Life and utopia: facing the light and backing the darkness...

All dreams do not come to fruition as quite a lot of what we want fit into the ‘utopian’ world; that world of unreachable dreams. I know I sound like a pessimist but sometimes when one is a realist one realises that not everything is going to end up being good and gay at the end…

I think this week’s assignment is the hardest one for me as I can’t articulate my personal vision for life – it’s not something tangible, it’s intangible. I can try to describe it for you but I don’t know if you’ll get the meaning from the words or from your feelings. None-the-less, let me try…

Somewhere along the road of life I picked this up quote and it has kind of been the motto for my life: \"Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching. Sing like nobody's listening. Live like it's Heaven on Earth.\" I never knew where it came from and wasn’t very interested at first but finally googled it and found out it was penned by Mark Twain. For years I’ve lived by it as I found that I can relate to it; looking at it now I can see that it might come across as selfish to some but I looked at the positive side of it – LIVE life.

I don’t think that the occupation we do should be about the monetary rewards. We should all be so lucky as to wake up with a smile on our faces and go to our jobs WANTING to be there because we’re doing something that we love. I wish that all jobs were fair and workers were well paid for their time, knowledge and energies; I wish there was nothing like ‘below the poverty line’ and ‘minimum wage’. WORK LIKE YOU DON’T NEEED THE MONEY.

Love…love is something that has eluded me in the relationship scenario. However, I’ve had it in my life from my family and friends in abundance. I wish the world was a place where love was easy, where children didn’t suffer and domestic violence didn’t exist. I wish there was no such thing as human trafficking and rape. We should be able to open our hearts and just let the sunshine in. LOVE LIKE YOU’VE NEVER BEEN HURT.

Our actions should not be governed by what society thinks and our lips should not be sealed by what we think we should say. We should all be so lucky as to dance like a completely uncoordinated chicken without negative criticism – we’re not all professional dancers. Likewise, our voices should not be contained to the shower – we might not be the best but when one speaks with feelings the message is more powerful than the tone. DANCE LIKE NOBODY’S WATCHING…SING LIKE NOBODY’S LISTENING.

We should all be so lucky as to LIVE, live every day as if it truly were out last. The burdens should not weight on our shoulders and the possible ‘sorrows’ of tomorrow should not stop us from shining today. LIVE LIKE IT’S HEAVEN ON EARTH.

My vision is simple yet hard to achieve – unconditional happiness. I want to be happy because…because there’s no reason to be sad.

Why do I want to be a voices of our future correspondent? The more I read the stories from my sisters in this program the more I think that they should be given the opportunity to shine over me. I have been fortunate and there are messages out there that are stronger than mine. However, I do think that through the fortunes of my life I do have something (maybe not unique but something none-the-less) to offer to this program:

Life doesn’t have to be about the negatives that exist and although we might not all be able to work, dance, sing and love like it’s heaven on earth the dream of the possibility is there. Utopia, yes, but if we don’t have faith and dreams and hope then what do we really have?

It just started raining outside and I’m going to go dance in the rain!
