Myself

I was born at a time when girls were frowned upon. We were told to be quiet , put ourselves last, be meek and adjust and compromise. I did it since basically I am a quiet and shy person. I got married and had all the freedom I wanted. I wrote, and became a journalist. I interviewed people ranging from VIPs like R. k. Laxman, singer Shankar Mahadevan and Palkhivala to violent boys in prison and victims in hospitals. I did paragliding, I covered miss world contests , attended big functions, reviewed dramas, films and books. I presented a paper at the United Nations, I was awarded Woman of Substance and other awards. I write books going deep into the dacoit infested areas of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. And much much more. My husband and children are well settled and have three lovely grandchildren. Despite my beginning I can truly say I am an empowered woman today

Wow Veena! What a life you have lived! Thank you for sharing this. I am curious what helped you get over the hump between being meek and compromising to speaking up as a journalist and taking great risks. Thank you for sharing your story and I can't wait to learn more about your life and your work!

I grabbed opportunities. And passive support from my husband whose work kept him too busy and out of the country for short periods. I had to take the initiatives.

Hello, Veena,

Wow! I’m so inspired by your personal growth and transformation from being meek and shy to a multi-talented empowered woman that you are today!

You did it! Congratulations to your achievements and rewards! Thank you for sharing!

I don’t want to change anything but I have a long list of what I want to do. Right now I have started a group where middle aged ladies are encouraged to fulfill their childhood dreams.
