PANIC IN FIJI MY BELOVED COUNTRY - FIRST COVID19 CASE

Yesterday was a bit of a reality check for all of us here in Fiji. We now have our first confirmed COVID19 case. Poor guy is a young flight attendant for our local airline Fiji Airways.....Our Government has now closed down the town that he is from.......and it was really shocking to see the panic buying at supermarkets.....again toilet paper and food stuff was the target......I was too tired to do any shopping.....and the heavy rain did not help.....

FAce Book was so quick to post his photo and by now his family is being isolated.....all public gatherings with 20 or more people have now being cancelled and we take precautions of our own......coming from a small developing country are we able to "handle" the impact of COVID19?....Most of us who are Christians are now turning to our Gods for intervention.....in the next few weeks......we will see how we are able to survive within our households as well as with one another......I have so much faith in Fiji citizens.....we have gone through cyclones....coups....and we are still here living with one another....

How are all of you doing?......Please keep safe....

Am so worried about my small business.......but I will work harder to ensure that all the magazines are sold and that we have advertisements to pay our workers and pay our bills and be able to help our most vulnerable women in our country......

Hi there,

Oh, dear. That's sad that the poor guy and his family were victimized. I'm glad the government is taking it seriously, though, before it gets out of hand, though, as it appears to be in so many other places that didn't know what to do initially.

Hang in there, let us know how it goes, and if we can help:-)

Please don't worry, dear. I believe everything happens for a reason.

Hello, dear Vintage,

Oh, what troubling news. I have to comment your government, though, for responding immediately by implementing a lockdown. I hope the virus will die and will not affect his family members. Our government waited until we had 20 confirmed cases before it decided to have a lockdown and community quarantine. Now, there are more than 200 positive cases with thousands under investigation and monitoring.

We can identify with the panic-buying and hoarding. So far our government has provided food for those who lost their jobs or sources of income. Please take care and stay safe.

Dear... thank you for sharing the situation in your country. Hope that tests will be conducted at once to the ones exposed to the flight attendant and if found positive, they can isolate themselves . May infection stop with the 1st victim and no one more. God bless.

Huggs,
Paulina

it is not been easy everywhere even in my country where people are running away from getting tested espcially our political class except for some that really understand what it means. they have also come out openly to declare their status. its not going to be easy but we shall come out triumphant
