In Pursuit of greatness

I was only 14 years, seated at Uhuru Park listening to a renowned televangelist preach in the grounds where another woman, Wangari Maathai had risked her life to save the park called freedom.

Her opening words you are great and you don’t know it! Those words stormed through my head like a thunderbolt, am great and I don’t know it? It’s like an awakening happened inside me and ever since I have been on this race pursuing greatness and am still learning the definition of the word everyday.

Those words would cause me discomfort all through my youth, I cannot settle in just anything, I have to be fulfilled.
Over the years dreams of being a journalist have fallen through my hands like grain of sands, I have walked away on many occasions mostly because I had no one to hold my hand or no one would take the time to.

Until last year when I finally found a mentor, slowly the passion has been coming back and the dreams are slowly beginning to regain life and take shape.

It is at Internews- a centre where journalists are allowed to use media facilities, that I had the opportunity to meet other journalist and one of them forwarded the link to the voices of our future correspondents and voila here I am.

Here I will have the opportunity to tell stories from my world and be heard and eventually bring change that is the dream of every journalist. Having the online journal means I can post thoughts and stories that at times conventional media may not be willing to publish.It is also very exciting that world pulse can also use one of my stories or that media like CNN, the N.Y times can pick my articles.

World Pulse will help me connect with people who share my vision of lifting street women and children through education, rehabilitation and providing them with entrepreneurial activities.

Through this network I will be able to get people or organization to take part in programs that am already a part of or we can work together to create new projects and improve the lives of women and children.

Street families just need someone to see them and take notice, putting a shilling in their plate is great but impacting them for life such that their children and those to come will have a great legacy on which to build on is itself amazing.

Here I can learn how to create an online magazine that is relevant to my generation and that will can connect as young people from all over the world.

As I walk towards my vision, I am doing little things like orphans in Kilifi, for a hundred shillings-a dollar or so am able to ensure that a child gets food to eat and is able to stay in school.

I am trying to use the networks I have created to boost one woman who has a vision of lifting children by providing them with education and at times a home. So far I managed to have a friend send them 100dollars and with that two children are able to stay in school for a month or so without worry.

I know am in the right place and the greatness inside will slowly unfold step by step.
