WOMEN IN POLITICS



Kenyan and African women have fought many battles in their pursuance for equality and respect in society. Theirs has been a rocky path filled with tearful tales of brutality, dehumanization and even death. From the beaches of the Indian Ocean to the shores of Lake Victoria, women have risked their lives for the liberation of their gender.



From the legendary Mekatilile Wa Menza to the late Nobel Laureate Wangari Mathai; from the elderly Phoebe Asiyo to the brave Martha Karua, Kenyan women have struggled to defeat negative cultural practices that dehumanize them.
As Kenyans prepare for the 2012 general elections, women must strategise to win more elective positions since the constitution has expanded their space for gaining power. .........
