Menstruation as a Gift to Girls and Women

Menstruation which begins at the onset of puberty and continues to Adulthood is a gift to Girls and Women signifying their uniqueness.Unfortunately, this issue is still treated as a taboo and in utmost secrecy in a number of communities this is of course due to traditional and religious stereotypes which depicts Menstruation as Unclean.

The new era characterized by the Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2063, Maputo Protocol and other global and regional documents which promotes the empowerment of Women and the Girl-Child directly or indirectly recognizes the importance of Menstruation by promoting Women and Girls'  unhindered access to resources.

As we mark the 2019 Menstrual Hygiene day, there is need to systematically address all stereotypes surrounding Menstruation while also promoting the need for Women and Girls' to have unhindered access to water and sanitary materials to make their monthly cycle a pleasurable experience.
