LOOKING FORWARD TO A NEW DECADE OF UNPRECEDENTED EXPLOITS

Growing up in my country Nigeria I had looked up to the year 2020 as I believed it would be a period where my country would be like every developed nation on planet earth characterised by good road network, constant power supply, excellent transportation services, excellent educational system-the list is endless. Common on what else was I to expect? I had constantly heard of Vision 2020, Education for All in 2020, Nigeria would be the fastest growing Economy in 2020 and every other great plan and discourses for year 2020. But I was flabbergasted that I entered 2020 and there was still problem of power supply as even on the new year day, I did not have power, I was also shocked that in 2020 Women were still exposed to precarious conditions which made them  vulnerable to Gender Based Violence and then it dawned on me, I can wish for all the good things of life just like my country but if I do not work to make my plans a reality then nothing would change. However,I am very grateful that in the last decade I achieved my dreams of travelling abroad for the First Time and off course studying for a Post-Graduate degree in Women and Gender Studies in the school of my dreams but I am  determined more than ever before in the new decade to build the capabilities of Women and Girls and letting them know Sexual and Reproductive Health is a Human Right which every Woman irrespective of her socio-economic status should be aware of as a Woman should not have the number of children she cannot adequately cater for. Let Women have a voice of their own to chart their course in the seat of power and of course in the market place. Lastly, I am hoping that in this decade I am able to carry out unprecedented exploits in preparing the Girl-Child in my country for Sustainable Development by letting her know that through Education the sky is not her limits but her starting point.
