Advancement of Women

The report of the Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its Causes and Consequences, Rashida Manjoo, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 65/187 is worth reading.

I would like to encourage readers to read this whole report, and then take a few moments to reply to the conclusions and recommendations as it relates to your country, either here or in your journals:

a) Is it difficult to assess effective implementation of laws preventing and responding to violence?

b) are the laws addressing the rights of women effectively implemented?

c) does your country have institutions, such as national committees or council on women that effectively develop strategies for violence against women?

d) how is the internet being used to provide services and training for women?

e) which recommendations by the special rapporteur could be or are being implemented in your country?
