International Women in Cyber Day, September 1, 2019
∆ Globally, only about 11%* of the cybersecurity workforce are women. ∆ Enrollment for women in cyber around the globe is low. ∆ More women are needed in leadership roles. ∆ With increased diversity, research has shown leads to increased revenue and profits. ∆ Decades of research has shown, an increase in diversity of thought leads to better problem-solving and resolution. ∆ Increase ethics throughout the industry. ∆ Women in cybersecurity face unique challenges and barriers which are not being addressed and are the reason for women exiting the industry. ∆ More than 50 countries are participating in this initiative and petitioning their countries of origin to declare an International Women in Cyber Day on September 1st of every year. ∆ We need increased public awareness of the issues in this industry and need to correct systemic problems which result in women exiting the industry. Similar reasons for low enrollment rates. ∆ Women should be encouraged to consider security as a career choice. Instead of being told, ‘that’s technical’ or ‘that’s hard’. ∆ This will not only expand and increase opportunities for women but also lead to greater financial stability and economic opportunities. Note:* Some reports list a higher number but they include women working in the industry. However, they are not part of the actual workforce.

Support women in cybersecurity by signing our petitions.

∆ International Women in Cyber Day is a global movement with 50+ countries and hundreds of people supporting this cause.

∆ We aim to bring awareness to the issues and unique challenges women face in this industry.

∆ Women experience harassment, bullying, sexism and much discrimination and wage disparity.

∆ The goals are 1) to support women 2) retain women working in cybersecurity 3) retrain women from other sectors and bring them into the cybersecurity world. 4) Provide financial stability for women and 5) Increase economic opportunities.

∆ By 2020, it is estimated over 3 million vacant jobs will be available in cybersecurity worldwide.

There are numerous benefits to women as this is a wonderful opportunity for women to achieve career goals and financial security.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for sharing your petition, awareness and event. I was unable to sign the petition, however, as I'm not Canadian.

Hope you're having a good weekend.
