My Journey

I was born in Canada and have not moved since. I am the youngest child in my family and have an elder sister. My parents first immigrated to Canada with nothing but a few dollars. But after years of hard work, we are now a middle-class family who is just managing to fit in to the lifestyle of a bustling, busy city.

Currently, my greatest challenge is finding the courage within myself to speak up and go after my passions and dreams. One of my passions is the art of numbers – the field of mathematics. But in this field, women are underestimated. People believe that women are capable of less so they expect less, and thus, women are under the impression that it’s okay to give less. To help fight this biased stigmatism, I have joined various organizations targeting and empowering women. But I would like to expand beyond the borders of my immediate community, I want to reach out to more women. Despite focusing on the lack of confidence instilled in women, there is also a pressing issue of male confidence in fields such as art. Even though I have only experienced the former, I would like to reach out to the latter issue and empower males to be comfortable in these fields. My hope is to bridge the gap so that there is no line distinguishing male and female jobs.
