An Open Message from a Mother

I couldn't, at the time, prevent my son from inseminating,
So the future of his children was only in his creating.
It broke my heart that my son didn't understand responsibility;
He believed that all his actions were to be backed by me.

The men and their families of my society seemed to believe
That the males had no responsibility for their children conceived.
They didn't want or bear any responsibility for society's harm
To the children that couldn't be proven to be of their loins.

I thank the scientists who used their sacred intellects
To assign fatherhood to those mothers are bound to protect.
Perhaps equal parental treatment will come through those
Who've had their denial of responsibility exposed.

So many males are taught that marriage and family is a trap;
I was blessed by a son with responsible compassion intact.
There are many who still think him a fool for accepting
Responsibility, with joy, that his friends were rejecting.

My son has never shirked his parental responsibility;
I was honored to help him with his young family.
The thing that what bothers me most, as I grow old,
Is that I am now the family member shut out of his fold.

No person in his life has been as fiercely loyal to him,
But he has been ridiculed for having me as a friend.
The society in which he lives still openly despises
Any man who doesn't, for his tenderness, have disguises.

My spirit is a bleeding wound because I still so care,
But he will not accept those with whom I share.
This is not the life that I looked for when he was young,
But he has assured me my last mother song has been sung.

I continue to promote male tenderness as a mission
Holding out the hope it may help my own position.
If not for me, I hope for future children's' generations
That this sacred effort will improve their family stations.
