"REJUVENATE THE ROBUSTNESS IN WOMEN RATHER RUINING IT"

I am delectated to share with you that in India the legal marriage age for women is increased to 21 years. previously the legal marriage age for men is 21 and for women is 18.

It is imperative to tackle gender inequality and gender discrimination and to put in place adequate measures to secure health, welfare and empowerment of women and girls and to ensure status and opportunity for them at par with men.

It decreases the count of girls being pulled out of schools for marriage , including maternal mortality . The early marriage entails the unpreparedness of girls bringing up children if they themselves are children .In India through a survey it is revealed that about 6.8 percent of women in age group of 15-19 were already mother's or pregnant at the time of survey.

Women participation in the labour market is the best way of empowering them. It will be easier for them to continue to work even after marriage. It also gives them greater bargaining power to deal with social evils like dowry. This active participation will result in tremendous spill over effect on nutritional status, health condition of household.

I am anguished that even now in some countries the legal marriage age for women is less than 20. I wish that hopefully we can generate a positive impact by bringing awareness regarding benefits of increasing marriage age among women .
