Visiting Kenya for GBV Training

Hello WP Sisters!

It has been awhile since my last post. I try to regularly visit the WP message boards for inspiration and to see amazing changes you all are working towards to empower women in your community. Recently I was volunteering with WP and helping out Maya with the VOF 2016 Training. I really enjoyed reading through all of your campaigns, successes, challenges, words of wisdom, and your ambitions. It was very inspiring for me and felt honored to be able to read about your ideas to make change happen! Thank you for all the work you do!

I'm writing to the WP community and especially to our sisters in Kenya because I will be traveling to Nairobi very soon. I have the privilege of being accepted to attend a fully-funded workshop hosted by the UNFPA, the Human Rights Education Associates (HREA), and the International Medical Corps on \"Managing Gender-Based Violence Programs in Emergencies\". The training will be held in Nairobi, Kenya during the second week of August. I am very excited to continue my career path to ending violence and exploitation of women and girls, and to meet many others from around the world at this training.

This will be my first time to visit any country in Africa and I would really enjoy meeting some of our WP sisters who would be interested in connecting, networking, having some laughs, and sharing our knowledge and our experiences in the work we do to empower women and girls. I'm not quite sure my daily schedule just yet, but I expect that I will have some free time in the late afternoons/evenings. I would also love to connect with women's groups, GBV organizations, and girls education programs in Nairobi or outside of the city. I may be able to stay a few days past the workshop training, but I don't know if I can yet. I would love to take the opportunity to connect with these groups as I started a nonprofit (mentioned in my profile), Education for Equality International, which focuses on girls education, empowerment, and leadership. I am also currently employed at a domestic violence agency which helps American women who live overseas.

Please feel free to contact me! I'm so thrilled to be doing this work and to have this training opportunity! It would be amazing to be able to connect in-person with some of you through WP! Thank you!

Best,

Fonda Sanchez
