My Journey

I come from a small coastal community, south of the Kenyan Coast. My family is composed of two ethnic communities in Kenya, where my father was from the Duruma and my mother the Luo community. I live in Nairobi, in a community with a high youth population. A big challenge I am facing right now is in eradicating violence against women. Women face social and economic challenges in my community. To date, I have conducted violence prevention trainings. The trainings focused on transforming the mind-sets of young men on negatives stereotypes on gender equality and enabling young women to recognize and report incidences violence. We have used artistic interventions such as graffiti to spread non-violence messages in the local market.

I would like to use technology to create an online community of anti-violence advocates. I support young people in my community with support from community leaders, government, and local donors. I need digital skills to make us vibrant online and resources to empower youth from informal settlements on how to use technology to spread anti-violence messages. I am passionate about human rights and gender equality, and will be delighted to work with like-minded people to end this human rights violation.
