I will conduct training for women in my community with special focus on young women . The goal of the training is to find out why there is an increase in recent cases of violence against young married women. We hope that from the training, participants will get solutions that will focus on prevention of future violence. From the trainers tool kit, we will use the Prezi Digital Presentation Tool as it will connect the narratives we are trying to share better. In order to adapt the training to local needs in the community, we will conduct the training in our local language Kiswahili where we will embrace storytelling in order have an engaging workshop. The resources I will need to conduct the training includes a safe space where the training can take place and a few experts and professionals who will offer the needed advice. I am able to get the training center for free as it is already provided by one of our mobile network companies. I will rally a few experts in my circle to volunteer their advice and support.

Yvone,

This sounds very interesting!

Great topic, interesting choice of tool.

I am very keen to know how it goes, especially using the Prezi Digital Presentation Tool in Kiswahili. Please if/when you conduct the training, kindly share glimses of it.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you Elvire for your support. I love the Prezi tool since I find it fun and more creative when it comes to making a presentation. Like Power point, you can key in titles, topics, themes etc. I will do the same with Prezi. The only difference is that I will key in most words in Kiswahili. This is new but it should be a lot of fun.

Hi Yvone,

This is such grassroots important work, and it is both exciting and inspirational to read about your plans. It is reassuring to know that you are there recognizing this increase in violence and providing a safe place for women to talk. By sharing your information others making similar plans can benefit too. I look forward to any news you share on how things are going. If there is any information that would be of help to others that could be listed under Resources in the Gender-Based Violence group, please consider not only posting resources, but also joining the group yourself and reposting this article as well.

The very best wishes with your ongoing work,

Tam

Dear Yvonne,  This sounds like a great opportunity for your community. It is so hard to know that gender-based violence keeps repeating from generation to generation. Thank you for doing this work and allowing for a safe place to be built where women can share their own solutions. I am curious to know if there will be an opportunity to integrate digital empowerment into your training.  I love the fact that you are aware of bringing the storytelling culture of your community. I look forward to learn more about this training in the future.

Warmly,

Maya

Thank you so much Maya for your kinds words. Yes I will definitely in cooperate digital empowerment tools in my training. As part of the training, I will teach the young women how to start conversations via social media and how to use social media to create change. I would also love to introduce them to World Pulse. Soon we will be having some computers donated to us.The message I will be trying to share with them is that they can create change using resources freely available to them but also looking at their safety.
