CANCER: 79.68% OF PATIENTS ARE WOMEN IN MADAGASCAR

Cancer is a reality in Madagascar as in all developing countries. Although the incidence is the same as in rich countries but the problem is more worrying because resources for support are very limited. It is therefore necessary to optimize these resources. There is one throughout Madagascar referral center for cancer. But all doctors and health workers have a role to play in the management of cancer, either in the education of the public to conduct \"anti-cancer\" or by the screening or diagnosis, or in orientation of patients, in monitoring and palliative treatments. Madagascar has only seven doctors treating cancer in this center.
In Madagascar, there are a predominance of cancer in women: breast cancer and cancer of the cervix. Last year there were 1137 cases with 231 men and 906 women. According to statistics by the Oncology Service of the University Hospital of Antananarivo 48% of women are affected in breast cancer and 27% in the cervix.

Note that these figures do not represent the reality in Madagascar, 70% of patients come from Antananarivo and the surrounding area. Moreover, the failure of the treatment device has led to a drop in attendance from the center compared to previous years. According to IARC-WHO project taking into account population and risk factors, the incidence of cancer in Madagascar would be 18,000 new cases per year.
