The New Year is well upon us and I couldn't be more excited for the months ahead with you. I predict that this year the global women's revolution will speed up into a gear we've never seen before. And we will help make it happen, together.
However, before we share more about all the exciting new initiatives in store for World Pulse members in 2016 (and there are many!), we want to first pay tribute to 2015 by highlighting key stories of our collective achievement and impact from the past year.
Our expanding impact in women's lives and their communities worldwide is only because we are powered by your brave voices and visions. In 2016 let's grow the volume of our world-changing pulse louder than ever before!

AVA Digital Award
In January 2015, we unveiled our new technology platform, designed to sustain millions of women globally speaking out and mobilizing for change. In less than a year the platform received four website awards: a Gold Best in Biz Award for Website of the Year, a Silver International Best in Biz Award for Website of the Year, a Silver Stevie International Business Award for Non-Profit Website, and a Platinum AVA Digital Award for excellence. We thank our funders, our website development team, and all of you for supporting this crucial project to connect women’s voices and transform our world!
World Pulse was recognized in September as an important respite from cyber violence by The New York Times' Editor's Blog and the U.N. Broadband Commission for Digital Development. "Creating a safer and more equitable Internet won’t just be about stopping bad behavior—as the report notes, it’s also important to actively promote gender equality and women’s participation. The report’s authors praise groups like World Pulse that encourage women to speak out online, and call on tech companies to elevate more women to positions of power." Visit our Newsroom for links to the article and report.
2015 was a banner year for World Pulse introducing new programming via our upgraded platform! We launched five groups to help our women leaders connect and create change even faster. 17 women from 12 different countries stepped into the new Community Champion role, mobilizing World Pulse groups while gaining new leadership skills. New and long-time members engaged in our Intro to Digital Empowerment Training, designed to train thousands of women in digital skills and building movements online. And we continued to channel voices on multiple issues through our timely Take Actions on climate change, education, maternal health, gender-based violence, and grassroots mobilizing.
In 2014, World Pulse crowdsourced voices from around the world during one of our most inspiring campaigns ever: the Women Weave the Web Campaign. The stories have now been analyzed and united into a powerful set of recommendations for individuals in all sectors worldwide to carry forward. World Pulse has delivered the recommendations to many key influencers to ensure gender inclusivity in all digital products and policies. Read them here today.
The 2014 Lynn Syms Prize recognized Women Weave the Web participant Sister Zeph of Pakistan as an outstanding woman with a visionary voice. Sister Zeph, who is using digital tools to effect change and advance her community, was granted $20,000 USD to support the mission and growth of Zephaniah Free Education, her school which educates and empowers women through formal education and skills training. Her organization has taught over 500 girls, and is now able to open its doors—literally—to hundreds more because of this prize. In December, Sister Zeph posted a heartfelt video update showing the new school building built with the prize funds. Watch Sister Zeph's video update here and follow her journey on World Pulse.
World Pulse Leaders
Thanks to the support of our many of you, our dedicated funders and community members, we successfully raised our funding goal for the year! Whether you are an online supporter, a multi-year granting organization, or a woman logging on for the first time, we all work to ensure that at the click of a button 24 hours a day, women have a safe haven, a voice of our own, and the confidence to transform society. We extend our deep gratitude to everyone joining us in this vision! If you or anyone in your network is interested in supporting World Pulse and would like to learn more, please contact us.
World Pulse talent grew by leaps and bounds in 2015: We welcomed five new board members, seven new global advisory network members, and eight new staff, for a total of over 20 new and diversely talented individuals! This new expertise ranges from business strategy to gaming strategy, from diversity consulting to scaling philanthropic communities, from community organizing to training curriculum development, and so much more. To each and every one of you who joined our team in 2014, we welcome you and we thank you for bringing new energy, ideas and commitment to World Pulse!
At the heart of World Pulse are the many talents and gifts shared by volunteers, as this quote from Elizabeth Andrew describes. In 2015, World Pulse Listeners made 7,343 supportive and encouraging comments, Welcomers sent 5,352 welcoming messages, and Translators wrote 281 posts. More than 30 in-office volunteers donated hundreds of hours toward various projects. And of course, our Board of Directors, Global Advisory Network, Community Advisory Board, Advisors, Mentors, and Community Champions have volunteered countless hours to helping lead World Pulse. Thank you to all who have helped strengthen and support us this year!
This past fall, Jensine gave two powerful keynote speeches, now available online to watch! She was joined by World Pulse Community Leader Jampa from Tibet at Emerging Women Live, bringing down the house with their talk about Women and the Digital Age: Using Technology to Connect, Inform and Empower Our Global Sisters. How exciting it was to share the stage with Jane Goodall, Brene Brown, Elizabeth Gilbert, and so many other women leaders! Then, Jensine appeared again at the Bioneers National Conference, speaking on Crowdsourcing the Feminine Intelligence of the Planet. Watch both talks now!
