VOF Resources: I am amazed!

I once shared how at age 9, I decided I wanted to weave my hair myself and sat in front of the mirror to do it for the very first time. I expected people to make bad comments but instead people cheered me knowing I made it myself. I was so proud of my little success and decided to start helping my friends with theirs.

When I did my Asset Map last year, I wrote out a lot of personal assets that I didn't realize were "assets" and working on my resources and assets mapping this week has been nothing short of amazing. Here is the one I am most proud of.

1. My mum is a Success Catalyst and a Coach, but for some reasons, she has never been my coach until recently. I see her in a different light right now and working with her directly in the classroom has opened my eyes to other resources in my family that I have taken for granted. This is the most surprising for me. I wish I had started working with my mum as my coach earlier.

2. My work requires that I use halls to hold events monthly and sometimes, I cancel events because I couldn't afford to pay for a hall for use. I made a list of all the people I know personally with halls and small meeting rooms that I can use and have 4 now. The list is still growing and this will be very useful for my women meetings, volunteer training, teacher training and small group meetings. I just realised that My Coach (Mum) has a lot of resources that I have always needed but never used because I never asked. He office space in Ikoyi can take about 30-40 people comfortably. I have asked to use it and she has graciously agreed.

3. My Coach belongs to BNI and other network and associations that has a huge resource that I never tapped into. I just joined BNI in Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. The referals from BNI will be good for my business and also projects.

4. She is a trained and certified teacher and with her skills, I can start developing the modules I need for the teacher training center rather than wait to high a Programs Director. She was also a school owner for 10 years. That is a lot of experience to learn from.

There are a lot of resources around me that I didn't know were assets that are really assets and can help me grow and would make my work much easier than it already is. This exercise was tasking and useful for me

Wow! Raquel you just hit a gold mine there. Your mum= Your Coach.

Glad you realized all the untapped resources you have around you. And you have also really challenged me to look deeper and closer home...there could be great resources which I have not yet identified.

    All the best gal.

Hi Raquel Thats amazing to have your mum as your coach. It is going to strengthen your relationship and that is awesome. It is interesting how we never thought of the people and things around us as assets. Am glad you have discovered many that can work in your favour. May God continue to bless you as you persue your dream.

This is awesome work Raquel, at times we forget to look inward before we extend outwards. Your mum is an invaluable resource you can never exhaust; maximize and once again am sure you'll over deliver - blessings!
