34 Million Friends AGAIN

Way back in 2002, the George W. Bush administration refused to release $34 million to the United Nations Population Fund for spurious/political reasons. Lois Abraham and I started asking 34 million Americans to take a stand for the women of the world with $1. To date we've raised a nice $4.3 million but way short of our goal. I, Jane, will be shocked if Trump doesn't defund UNFPA as have all Republican administrations since Reagan. It's part of the Republican war on the UN and on women.

UNFPA works worldwide for safe childbirth, and family planning/contraception. It trains doctors to repair obstetric fistulas. It educates againstthe myriad forms of gender based violence, rape, female genital mutilation, child marriage, and honor killings to nameonly four. It works in Syria helping pregnant refugee women fleeing for their lives and in refugee camps all over the world where the most vulnerable women reside. What, may I ask is wrong with all that?

So to make a very long story short, 34 Million Friends is getting ready to relaunch. Ever since Trump's election I have worked tirelessly here at home sorting out my email address book, going through my 17 notebooks which contain records of my speaking tour contacts and travels. I also have thousands of email addresses on my OUTREACH documents.

Access to the media is (unfortunately) the key to having 34 Million Friends go viral again. I've got plans for that! To speak in specifics I want to get on Rachel (MSNBC) and on National Public Radio (NPR) here in the U.S. I'm 75 with COPD (my parents smoked) so I can't really go to Marches. Butby God, I can use my ties on Linkedin and Facebook. I can count on my friends here in Redlands, California to spread the word. And I know I can count on the World Pulsecommunity to take a stand at www.34millionfriends.org. This time we're asking for $34 but 17 people, two bucks each would be terrific.

So here I sit on a Sunday morning working and plotting for whenthe formal defunding is announced. I know I am with the millions of Americans toiling in our own specific ways to right the wrongs of this ugly lying, unAmerican Trump administration. We can present to the world the true image ofwho we are as a people. Frankly I think joining 34 Million Friends is a great way to do that.
