Every employer require certain skills for certain jobs but almost every employer would love a potential employee to possess basic computer skills in addition to other skills.

In this technology era where using the internet to communicate and search for information is vital for most people as well as businesses, not having basic computer skills can hamper your chances of getting a good job, a contract or even marketing your products/services online. Even searching for jobs online and sending emails to people require basic computer skills. Imagine if you were asked to send an information to someone in another country, won't you prefer sending an email rather than writing a long letter that might take days to arrive?. Of course, you would prefer an email.

Having basic computer skills will save you lots of hassle and delays. Moreover, you can search for any information that you want on the internet without waiting for anyone to do it for you.

It is NEVER too late to start. Learning is a continuous process.

In Singapore, the government encourages people to upgrade, and consistently learn. Elderly can sign up for free courses at community centres, to be taught internet skills and to use it during their free time since these are usually retired old people, who also need entertainment to keep their brains active.

Students have computer lessons in schools. For adults, it is part and parcel in daily life whether for work or leisure, to be online. Internet usage rates here are very high, many are available on the internet , since they have smartphones with internet access.

I like the part where you wrote "Elderly can sign up for free courses at community centres, to be taught internet skills and to use it during their free time since these are usually retired old people, who also need entertainment to keep their brains active".

At least it will help reduce boredom too :).
