Mental health and self care during the Kavanaugh news



If you're feeling triggered by all the discussion of sexual assault that came with Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court bid, you're not alone...Please remember to take care of yourself through this.  I have to remind myself of this, self care I believe is an essential part of continuing to work and being able to focus on positive change.  



Taking action can also be part of self care, but that looks different for everyone.  Sometimes I feel that many of us, including lots of women working on social change tend to diminish the importance of self-care as “selfish” and the idea of martyrdom still can be glorified, which I believe can be dangerous to mental health and our ability to keep taking action!  And also I believe can reinforce the idea that women need to sacrifice all at all costs, for others without accounting for their needs or health.
