Introducing myself and my journal: Leading Environmental Justice

About Me:
studied Geography and Environmental Science (with specialty in Environmental Resource Management) at the University of Calabar, Nigeria. The emphasis of my studies was to provide understanding of the fundamental principles that govern the interaction between natural and human environment. But I also learned about diverse topics such as Climate Change, Ecological Economics and Environmental Justice, International Trade, Conflict resolution, sustainable Development and Evaluation. I found the first topic, Climate Change, very interesting and exciting because the Africa continent remains the most vulnerable to the climate impacts. It also aligns with one of my career aspirations to becoming a Climate Change Movement Builder. I have a working understanding of environmental research methodologies currently employed to assess oil and climate change-related conflicts in the Niger Delta of Nigeria and other parts of Africa as a strategic tool to checkmate the impact of climate change in the country. As a vibrant environmental activist, I have participated in various environmental conferences in Africa and Europe, which developed my competence to recognize and understand the conflicts in the African environment and appreciate the steps required to
develop workable solutions. As a step to curb the effects of climate change, I participated to engage community people in tree planting, use of solar photovoltaic for lighting systems, and energy cooking stoves provided to reduce the amount of wood used as much as 80% for cooking and thus reduce carbon emissions and deforestation. I also engaged communities and other stakeholders in a Sustainability School across the country, empowering them on how they can effectively organize themselves. This strategy was used by community people, students and other stakeholders to dialogue a process with the oil multinationals and the Nigeria Government to put a stop to the routine Gas Flaring in the Niger Delta consequent upon oil production as local people are bearing the pollution cost and as it contributes about 13% to the global temperature rise.I am passionate about protecting the environment for local people, who bear the burden environmental degradation from selfish interest of corporations and governments. Giving them voices to reclaim their rights, and enjoy a healthy environment ,favorably for their development.
