Climate change is a women matter

I wouldlike to repost this one.

I want to raise the question of the consequences of climate change on women. In some developing countries and especially in rural areas, it is women, in most cases, who are responsible for feeding the family. For this, theyundretake on agricultural and livestock activities. So, because of torrential rains, hurricanes, landslides, rising sea levels, desertification, global warming, floods, declining biodiversity, etc., women are affectedand are facing difficultiesto provide food for their families. Women are the first victims of these consequences but until then, most of the actions taken to curb these phenomena do not take into account women. and what they can bring, should therefore actively involve women in this struggle and especially in decision-making on actions. I think womenmust be actively involved in in the struggle against climate change, especially in decision-making processes.

In my country, farmers use to burn forest for agriculture activities which detroys forest area, even if thismethod allows an easier harvesting it leaves the soil in poor condition.This kind ofpressure to the forest, which as we know is the lung of the planet, will lead our world to the end. So, to avoid pressure, woman must taught new agricultural techniques and even agroforestry and new livelihoods that are not harmful to the forest.

In addition, it is found that protected areas do not contribute to the survival of livelihoods of the people living around them and which are entirely dependent on natural resources. I think this question is essential because women must feed their families and are supplied with what nature provides, we must find the solution that is simultaneously protect the forest while ensuring the survival of their families. The solution may be community forestry in forest areas, which consist basically to conserve the forest while allowinglocal communitiesto benefit from the products of these forests for their survival.

The problem of land tenure is also very important for women who work land every daybut do not have the rights to possess it, because of customary considerations that still the force of law in rural areas of my country and some African countries. The reality is that the products of the land they cultivate belong to the husband who must decide what to do and not her. We must reform the land law in our countries, in mine in the DRC, such action already underway and we are conducting activities with public authorities to plead the cause of women. Also, it would be nice to take action with the customary authorities, village leaders and heads of families in the most remote areas of the country.
