About Me: I am an independent consultant for almost five years now specializing on Gender and Development in Governance. My commitment to gender equality is not just a work but a personal crusade. My commitment started when part of my work as a local government employee way back in 1991 was to introduce Women in Development (WID) in the communities and local governance structures and institutions. From WID, it becomes Women and Development, then Gender in Development and eventually the local, regional and national network for women empowerment in the Philippines adopted the Gender and Development framework. Thus, in 1995 our local inter agency committee adopted the GAD framework, until now. I take pleasure in understanding GAD concepts and principles as I see, observe and experience it in my daily lives as well as that of my environment along with my fellow local gender advocates. My favorite development quotation is " Development is about living a full and satisfying life where every woman/girl has the capacity to do and capacity to BE!

My Passions: Nurturing ideas

My Challenges: Rearing 8 children

My Vision for the Future: To make every child gender sensitive

My Areas of Expertise: Facilitation, Strategic Planning, Organizational and Institutional Development, Local Governance Knowledge Management

I would like to share about the name of my journal "Ugsadan". It is a "kiniray-a" term (my local dialect among the many dialects in the Philippines) which means the first step when one enters somebody's house. I chose it because I believe joining this global network of women is like my first step to HOME. I feel very much at home especially with the quick and warm welcome from several folks in here. I also believe that PULSEWIRE is also my first step towards greater awareness of the global issues affecting women. This is also my first step to open my heart to a community of women globally, truly giving me a voice!

By the way the regional gender network to which I belong is called "Ugsad". It may have a semblance to the name of my journal, but, actually it means full moon. We have a local belief that it is during full moon that women demonstrates greater spiritual, mental, emotional and physical power.
