Introducing myself and my journal: SUNbirth

About Me:
Hello world! I am humbled and overjoyed to be a part of this community and to hear your voices!

I am a 35 yr old mother living in Seattle, WA USA. I am a birth doula and breastfeeding educator. I have welcomed hundreds of new humans into the world in my work, and I love my life here in Seattle. I worked at the Mae Tao Clinic on the Thai/Burma border in 2005. I am interested in hearing about birthing practices around the world and other's birthing stories.

I see in my work with families that how a woman is treated and cared for during pregnancy, birth and early postpartum contributes to her development and health as a woman and mother long term. The more she can find her voice and feel empowered by her experience, the better equipped she is as a new mother and the better off the world is around her. I provide a continuous, supportive presence for families during this transition and help them make it across the raging river of birth to the safe bank of parenting feeling whole and ready to parent.

My Passions:
My family, good food, birth and breastfeeding, healthy simple living, music...

My Challenges:
My family, birthing practices in the US, growing a diverse community here in Seattle...

My Vision for the Future:
A Global perspective that doesn't overwhelm me, and that inspires me to act locally.

My Areas of Expertise:
The mystery of birth, the emotional needs of pregnant/new mothers. The role of the birth doula in US birth system.
