They have as their goal the creation of effective policy changes to improve the lives of Latin Americans. The Foundation has identified five program areas in which focused, expert research and innovation has the potential to make significant positive impact. Proposals should address one of these areas of interest: Democratic Governance; Education; Sustainable Resource Management; U.S. Policy toward Latin America; Antarctica Science and Policy. Projects should have a strong public policy component, offer innovative solutions to problems facing these regions, and incorporate new mechanisms for addressing these programmatic areas. Activities may include, but are not restricted to, research projects, workshops and conferences related to the Foundation's areas of interest. The Foundation encourages collaboration among organizations in the United States and Latin America and prefers to fund those institutions that are actively engaged with external stakeholders in addressing an issue of concern.

UbiComp is a premier interdisciplinary venue in which leading international researchers, designers, developers, and practitioners in the field present and discuss novel results in all aspects of ubiquitous and pervasive computing. This includes the design, development, and deployment of ubiquitous and pervasive computing technologies and the understanding of human experiences and social impacts that these technologies facilitate. In the papers and notes track, we welcome high quality submissions that describe original and unpublished research contributions advancing the frontier of pervasive and ubiquitous computing. A submission (full paper or note) should clearly compare and contrast how the work relates to previous research and knowledge, what aspects of the work are new, and the major contributions it makes. Authors should write their paper for an interdisciplinary, international audience.

One may be regarded as opposed to the other, and the two shall meet. There must be theory for there to be practice. To have development, there must be research, and so forth. There will be at R&C 2015 workshops and/or organizational (informal) meetings to create an entity that acts as an umbrella for participants (individuals and organizations) to be in an atmosphere where their research and consulting will be more successful in bearing the productive fruit of their epistemic efforts. Submissions for Face-to-Face or for Virtual Participation are both accepted for the conference. Both kinds of submissions will have the same reviewing process and the accepted papers will be included in the same proceedings.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the Embassy of the United States in Islamabad, Pakistan is accepting proposals for a Grant or Cooperative Agreement to support entrepreneurship programs in Pakistan that connect U.S. and Pakistani entrepreneurs. The objective is to promote sustainable enterprises, small businesses, and innovation in Pakistan through connections with U.S. partners, especially successful U.S. entrepreneurs. Eligibility Criteria - Applicants must: 1) be a U.S. and Pakistani registered not-for-profit, civil society/non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, or commercial firms; and U.S. State or local governments, or U.S. federally recognized Indian tribal governments: 2) have at least two years of related programming experience; 3) demonstrate experience executing successful entrepreneurship activities and the capacity to manage all financial aspects of the project, including participant costs and transparent arrangements of sub-grant relationships with partner organizations, if applicable; 4) provide a copy of the organization’s registration with the proposal application.

> Changemaker Innovation Generator (CIG) & Social Venture Builder (SVB) Programme
The SVB programme and the CIG have been designed to offer distinctive, innovative, practical models that build skills and competence while developing investable and marketable social enterprising solutions. The complex social problems our society now faces require an approach that is interdisciplinary and focused on both innovation and commercialisation. The SVB’s ‘incubator programme’ is a product of the University of Northampton‘s continued commitment to social enterprise; thorough research, trial and improvement. The SVB and CIG are supported by Big Issue Invest and i-genius. The fully accredited programme is taught in 3 residential weekend workshops, spread over six months and assessed over twelve months through assignments and project work. This framework allows you to continue working while you learn – in a way that benefits both personal development and the development of the organisation. This is achieved through relevant applicable topic areas, and aided by the support of your personal mentor and business adviser. Topic areas covered include: social policy and impact marketing; procurement and commissioning; finance and leadership. The first round of the CIG will be delivered free of charge, with limited places available. There are opportunities for all candidates to apply for part or fully funded places on the SVB programme.

News producers, individuals and groups who produce noteworthy information, intervene in the public sphere in order to inform, promote, alert, and denounce. They do so as experts, commentators, members of the public, whistleblowers, activists, citizens, journalists, citizen journalists, publicists, or lobbyists. All communicate through a variety of channels, although they may or may not claim to be producing news of public interest, intentionally or incidentally. The variety of "public" news and the diversity of people producing it demand a discussion about how "public interest news" can be defined. Some recent developments, such as self-publication and social media, shed new light on an old question: who and what defines public interest news, how should it be defined and by whose authority? While positing that not every piece of information that is public constitutes information produced in the “public interest”, this preconference focuses on two types of questions: 1) Who are the producers of public interest news?; 2) How do they define information in the public interest?

> TPDL 2015 - 19th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries: Connecting Digital Collections (September 14-18; Poznań, Poland)
Valuable and rapidly increasing volumes of data are created or transformed into digital form by all fields of scientific, educational, cultural, governmental and industry activities. For this purpose the digital libraries community has developed long-term and interdisciplinary research agendas, providing significant results, such as development of Digital Libraries, solving practical problems, accomodating research data and satisfying the needs of specific user communities. The advent of the technologies that enhance the exchange of information with rich semantics is of particular interest in the community. Information providers inter-link their metadata with user contributed data and offer new services outlooking to the development of a web of data and addressing the interoperability and long-term preservation challenges. TPDL 2015 invites submissions for scientific and research work in the following categories: Full Papers, Short Papers, Posters and Demonstrations, Workshops and Tutorials, Panels and Doctoral Consortium. > 2nd International Conference Communicating Science (May 21 - 22; Covilhã, Portugal)
The conference intends to address the issues of the publication and evaluation of science in the light of this double paradox: a paradigm of science management that favors the mass appearance of predatory publishers; and the abuse of the "number that's devouring science", by management, but also by journals and authors, through cartelization schemes or coercion to maximize the impact of publications. Predatory practices require as an answer a serious and credible indexing of publications, that can free science and scientists from such risks. But serious and credible indexing is not itself immune to predatory practices, trying to capture it from within. Reflect critically on the intensification of this logic and paradoxes it generates is the purpose of this conference. Working Languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French.

> European Union Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) Mechanism
The global objective of this Call for Proposals is the establishment of a EU comprehensive human rights defenders mechanism addressing the most difficult situations faced by human rights defenders in the world and providing support to the local actors who strive to promote and defend them. This call addresses three core priorities and all of them must be included in the action: Priority 1) Focusing on the most difficult situations and the most vulnerable HRDs. Priority 2) Providing urgent, medium and long term support to HRDs. Priority 3) Ensuring coordination and outreach. In order to be eligible for a grant, the applicant must: a) be a legal person and be non-profit-making; b) be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary; c) be legally registered for a minimum of three years before the deadline for applications; d) The applicant must act with at least four co-applicants; e) The initial planned duration of an action may not exceed 36 Months; f) Prior registration in PADOR is obligatory. This is an open Call for Proposals, where all documents are submitted together (Concept Note and Full Application Form). In the first instance, only the Concept Notes will be evaluated. Thereafter, for the applicants who have been pre-selected, the full proposal will be evaluated.

> Digital Freedoms: Challenges - the Cybercultures Project 10th Global Meeting (July 7 - 9; Oxford, UK)
Online freedoms have become increasingly endangered in many regions of the world. This year's Interactive Convergence will be devoted to exploring the various ways in which digital freedoms are currently challenged - as well as possible responses to such threats - within the framework of five thematic tracks (Online Communities; Design for Social Networking; Regulating Online Communities; Computer-supported Subcultures; Mobile Applications). Because of the complexity of these challenges and the overlap of issues across themes, we are inviting participants of various backgrounds (academic, legislative, commercial; across disciplines) to submit proposals on several topics of interest to them. Presenters are additionally encouraged to think broadly within and across thematic tracks; we encourage submissions addressing research questions such as (though not limited to) those listed here below. The Steering Group welcomes the submission of proposals for short workshops, practitioner-based activities, performances, and pre-formed panels. We particularly welcome short film screenings; photographic essays; installations; interactive talks and alternative presentation styles that encourage engagement.

> Call for Chapter Proposals on “Theorizing Digital Divides”
Editors: Massimo Ragnedda, Northumbria University (UK) and Glenn W. Muschert, Miami University (USA). Potential contributors are invited to explore the importance of social theories in analysing digital divides and digital inequalities. Papers must be theoretical, and (while the may contain illustrative empirical evidence or examples) should strongly feature the conceptual potential of theorizing digital divides in novel and intriguing ways. Submissions are welcome from scholars at all stages of their careers, and from various relevant disciplines (sociology, communications, media studies, etc.). While certainly well-established theoretical traditions are welcome (as in those expressing the vision of foundational social theorists), we also welcome exploration into areas which are perhaps less dominant or newer. This book offers a unique contribution to the field in that its focus on inclusive philosophy, pedagogy, and practices for all learners, including those students within multiple and intersecting discourses (i.e. ability, race, gender, and class). Drawing on historical contexts, policy, and stories from the field, including teachers, families, and diverse individuals, this text bridges the philosophical with the practical to illustrate not only the importance of inclusive practice as a democratic principle, but how teachers can provide all students with an equitable, rigorous, and engaging education. Grounded in the recognition that there is not a one-size-fits all approach to education, nor is there a how-to manual, this text understands the art of teaching as emerging from the beliefs we hold as educators, as well as the meanings we construct and assign to difference. What we believe about students, particularly those students who have been labeled as “different” informs our instruction. To this end, this handbook: a) provides the historical, political, and legal context surrounding the intent of aim of inclusive education; b) explores the nature of difference and the intersection of race, ability, class, and gender and the ways traditional educational practice marginalized those students labeled as “different” and contributes to the achievement gap; c) examines pedagogy and practice to support inclusive practice; and d) showcases through first-person narrative, stories from the field and vignette case studies, the experiences of teachers working to create, facilitate and sustain inclusive communities for all students. Target Audience: this text provides practicing professionals, educators, and policymakers updated information and context to examine practices within professional learning activities to further refine and strengthen personal and school-wide inclusive pedagogy, practices, and policies. Edited by Steven John Thompson, PhD. The realm for a universal forum that discovers, explores, and prepares the way for eventual large-scale cyborg sociocultural integration, which just a few years ago would have been incredulous, is now upon us as partly evidenced through the proximity at which science, technology and the Internet are rapidly arriving at expectant machine sentience. This publication will address critical, foundational elements of study in human-machines and cyborgs, including their creation, governance, policy, and sustainment; rights, privileges, and expectations for participation in digital society; and other imperative aspects of their impending peaceful existence alongside their biological human, plant, and animal inhabitants in this world. Emerging Human-Machine Technologies will publish high-quality, anonymously peer-reviewed essays that explore universal concerns, ethics, objectives, and principles in aspects of human enhancement technologies related to human-machines, machine-humans, their cyber-relatives, and proliferation of cyborg activity, culture, engineering, society, and technology. This volume will include groundbreaking and exploratory author contributions from engineers, practitioners, researchers, scholars, scientists, theorists, political scientists, lawyers, philosophers, ethicists, and human factors technologists who work closely theoretically or in practice with select human enhancement technologies, synthetic biological sciences, military advancements, robotics engineering, nanoscience technologies, and related allied research interests. This 5-year program supported by the Nike Foundation, UK’s Department for International Development, and USAID is a pioneering accelerator that provides finance, world-class mentors and technical expertise to business that can improve the lives of adolescent girls. Eligibility Criteria: 1) Be a legal, registered enterprise able to demonstrate a minimum of one year of revenue-generating operations; 2) Be able to demonstrate current operations or plans to secure representation in Kenya, Uganda and/or Rwanda by June 2015; 3) The business’s product or service will increase adolescent girls’ ability to do one or more of the following: a) Generate income; b) Save time or labour, giving girls more time to study or secure employment; c) Save and invest their earnings and assets; d) Feel safe and secure; e) The business’s product or service must be a physical, digital or financial asset that targets or benefits girls.

> Berghof Foundation Grant for Innovation in Conflict (GIC) Transformation
Our 2015 GIC call aims to explore approaches to constructively engage in conflict
transformation social and political actors who have been branded by others as religious radicals or extremists. We invite project proposals that address one of the following three themes: a) Engaging with organisations alleged by others to have radical religious narratives in formal negotiations and/ or collaborative political initiatives of peace- and state-building; b) Exploring how peer-group dialogues or initiatives within religious communities (e.g. SunniSunni, Buddhist etc.) can help mitigate biases and contribute to processes of inclusive conflict transformation; c) Elaborating innovative peer-group initiatives to counteract the religious mobilisation of hatred and exclusion with a particular focus on Germany. The earliest starting date for projects submitted is 01 January 2016. The maximum project duration is limited to 24 months. Matching funds are considered advantageous, though not obligatory. This call focuses on peer-group approaches and the support for peer-group approaches within a religious and social community that develop nonviolent and inclusive alternatives to violence based on religious mobilisation.

On the way for a full digital society, ambient, sentient and ubiquitous paradigms lead the torch. There is a need for behavioral changes for users to understand, accept, handle, and feel helped within the surrounding digital environments. Ambient comes as a digital storm bringing new facets of computing, services and applications. Smart phones and sentient offices, wearable devices, domotics, and ambient interfaces are only a few of such personalized aspects. The advent of social and mobile networks along with context-driven tracking and localization paved the way for ambient assisted living, intelligent homes, social games, and telemedicine. We solicit both academic, research, and industrial contributions. We welcome technical papers presenting research and practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, such as those being discussed in the standard fora or in industry consortia, survey papers addressing the key problems and solutions on any of the above topics short papers on work in progress, and panel proposals. Industrial presentations are not subject to the format and content constraints of regular submissions. We expect short and long presentations that express industrial position and status. Tutorials on specific related topics and panels on challenging areas are encouraged.

> Transformations to Sustainability Programme - Three Transformative Knowledge Networks
Core funding is provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). It will enable social scientists to develop knowledge networks that will both strengthen social science leadership in global change and sustainability research and to foster on-the-ground progress towards greater sustainability. > Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women (GrOW) Program - Systematic Review Call on the Effects of Women’s Economic Empowerment on Economic Growth

GrOW aims to generate new knowledge about women’s economic empowerment, gender equality, and economic growth in low-income countries. This calls aims to assess whether more equal economic participation of women enhances their well-being as well as the conditions for economic growth. The research will identify the pathways through which women’s economic empowerment affect economic growth. It will also assess the factors that influence this complex relationship. Eligibility Criteria – Applicants: 1) should have a strong prior record of undertaking and publishing evidence synthesis; 2) are expected to be familiar with systematic principles and standards such as (a) http://methods.cochrane.org/standards or (b) http://www.3ieimpact.org/en/about/what-3ie-does/systematic-reviews-progr... 3) must submit projects that are to be undertaken by, or in the case of a research consortium, led by a research-oriented institution with legal corporate registration; 4) in a consortium, one partner must be designated as the lead institution and submit the application on behalf of the group; 4) must submit online applications in either English or French.

The Foundation´s mission and programs aim to support organizations that maximize impact and create change. The grant programs seek to support high-impact, low-cost solutions to the world’s toughest problems—in particular, social injustices. Eligibility/Requirements: 1) Applicants may be any public charity—U.S. based or non-U.S. based; 2) Applicants must submit a duly completed grant application. Areas of human rights we fund include, but are not limited to: a) Social/economic inequalities; b) Marginalized populations (women, older adults, people with disabilities, LGBTQI, indigenous/native people, refugees/internally displaced persons, etc.). We fund organizations that are either direct service providers or work in the field of advocacy. Funds may be used for general organization support or for a project. The activities we support through our grants must be charitable, educational, or scientific.
