Epic Queen: Empowering myself and empowering others through technology

I love technology and internet so much, but when I started working in tech companies and startups I realized that there were a few women working and leading in technology. So I thought "this is a huge problem and I want to solve it". Some other organizations in US were creating meetups and big conferences to solve this problem but no one in Latin America was solving this.

One year ago I started and created Epic Queen as a Blog to inspire more women about this, but I knew that this wasn't enough so I invite two partners to create a movement, a movement that is call Epic Queen Chapter. Epic Queen Chapter is an event that happens every month were 3 Role Models talk about what they are doing with technology. Our objective is that women can be inspired, empowered and can take action with quick tips.

Now a days Epic Queen is working for being an organization that promotes digital initiatives for leadership of women in technology and high-impact entrepreneurship. We are a community of women and men around LATAM seeking the same goal in common: to empower women in the digital culture, technology and entrepreneurship with technological base.

We seek to add value of change, beyond the entrepreneurial community. We believe that all women can do something amazing to change the world. Sometimes you just need a little push and Epic Queen wants to be the factor that helps women to take action in technology.

This proyect is impacting and empowering women around Mexico, the most important thing about creating Epic Queen is that I empowered myself doing what others though it was crazy. People told me that in Mexico there are a lot of "machos" and this organization wouldn't work here, and today is running, it wasn't something easy but it is something that me and my team are so passionated that it doesn't matter the barriers I have I would make things happen.

I am so thankful with the internet, this is a way to connect with people, in Epic Queen we use internet to write all our ideas in our website and blog. Thanks to the internet we made our first biggest successful campaign against misogyny in a tech event that in one day we reach more than 15,000 site visits. After this, our voice started to spread out. People in Mexico realized that a big problem do exist and that it needs a solution.

I do believe that online empowerment can lead to offline empowerment. We are just doing this with Epic Queen, we create the content in internet but we take action offline with the Epic Queen Chapters in different Places.

Digitally empowering women is important because internet is not about genres is about people. People with internet can make an enormous impact. A new era of digital entrepreneurship is coming and everyone needs to be on the same page. Internet is not about genre, its about being connected.

So, Epic Queen doesn't have funds now a days and still we have a great team around Latin America: Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Brazil, working as collaborators. Also, we work with the help of Women@Google and Google Developers as event sponsors. We know that this is going to be a big journey, but I am ready to work in something that is going to be bigger. I know if I make this happen I will help more women transform the world.
