My View : Civility of A Society is measured by benchmark how Society and Children treat , look after , and Care for Seniors and Ageing Parents - In the following quote What is within brackets are my own words - From Seniors' Community Center , Maple Valley , King County , Washington State , USA : Economic & Social Benefits Of Aging -- " A major predictor of Nobility of any Community , Family , Society and Government can be found how the most vulnerable section of SENIOR population, Parents are cared for , looked after , and supported by C , F , S , and G ( see the beginning ). Providing good quality supportive care-taking programs for SENIORS is worth the trouble , time , and expense ( remember everyone becomes A Senior in course of Time , Seniors when they were juniors took care of their children and when children become juniors they should take care of their parents - what goes around must come around ). The goal of C , F , S , and G is Health , Well being , (Happiness , Peace & Tranquility , and Comfort) of SENIORS to them Physically, Psychologically,Emotionally, and Socially as happy & well as possible. In The long run this benefits C , F , S , and G in economy , cost saving. World over The Demographic Shift is towards an increasingly older population ( It is the responsibility of C , F , S , and G to support Seniors in keeping them happy , healthy , contented for as long as possible. Unfortunately in Reality the support to Seniors at all levels Family, Community, Society, and Government is declining). My own observation : Maple Valley Senior Community Center is trying it's best to be a role model in that it organizes Yoga , Static Exercises , Healthy Nutritious Meals , Health Check Ups , Field Trips , Counselling in matters of Interest to Seniors , Transportation , Indoor games like Bridge , Carroms , Table Tennis - " All these Programs delay the onset disease , dementia , and death. "From Sri Roop Narain Mital : It is indeed true that the nobility of any society is judged by the well being of its elders and it has been observed that it is reflected in the well being of the entire community. The reverse is also true. I like to quote the example of Japan. They have the highest proportion of senior citizens in the World- 33%. By 2050 SCn will be almost half of the population - about 45%. They foresaw it 50 years ago and made changes in their system which ensured for their elders social, financial and health security. They are reaping the benefit now. The elders there remain productive till they are mentally and physically fit , not like India where when they are 60+ they are retired and when they become very old they are regarded as a burden and are often abandoned on roads. According to Age Watch of USA Japanese as a whole are the longest living, healthiest and wealthiest people in the World." AnasooyAathreya-SeshaAnjaneya VIJAYAkrishna
